For crochet plushies or projects in general, what is your opinion on Bernat Velvet? I know it is discontinued but honestly I strongly dislike how it snaps easily, sheds everywhere, and makes it impossible to close a magic ring without the yarn snapping. I really want to crochet with it. Also if you have worked with the yarn before, let me know what you would do and feedback.(I have like 3 big balls in different colors and want to use it up).
I haven’t ever used bernat velvet, but I have heard good things about it!
I hate it… I thought it was going to be the best yarn ever when I was a beginner. I bought a skein of light pink and hot pink. My friend requested a pink snake with light pink heart appliques. When I made the snake. My hook kept sliding out of my stiches and I felt like that yarn was a bit to fast for me. When I made the heart appliques. Ugg they just were terrible to make… I also got some black velvet yarn and made Dusty’s hat out of it. I liked it a bit better. huh I never really experienced that. I was more frustrated with the magic ring and snapping but mine is a super old skein so idk!
I’ve used bernat velvet and baby velvet, and honestly, I love it! It’s so soft and nice. It shed everywhere and I had to use the acrylic yarn trick for the magic circle, but the finished product was so soft- I gave it to a baby.
Well, it IS slippery, try a wooden hook instead of metal.
Try chain 2, and make first round of 6sc in the first chain.
I’ve a tub full of it, as well as a bunch of stuff made with it and I didn’t think it shed much.
Work with it slower than you usually would do you don’t make mistakes, it’s useless after frogging.
If you type in how to crochet with velvet yarn in you tube, there’s at least 50 videos.
Use the ch 2 method
Ive actually never used it!
that’s what i do and it works pretty well! the yarn is kind of a pain to work with but the final result is so soft i think it’s worth it loll
