I never made a crochet pattern, but designed cakes. The basic principles are almost the same at the start, I guess. Sketching or writing down your idea and gahering some inspiration. finalizing your sketch, colors you want to use, your own unique design and start crocheting and write every step. Make your adjustments till your happy with your design. Theen you are ready to create your final design with step by step pictures or a video tutorial. I am following along this topic. GL , you got this.

When I’m making amigurumi patterns, I always forget to put the round count (the number of stitches the round should have by the end of the row). So make sure you do that haha :joy: Good luck on your pattern making journey!! Lmk when your first tester call comes out

I think from the little experience I have, you should search for the inspos (maybe make a moodboard with the colors you want to use, the yarn that will be used etc…) and a make a few sketches to have a general idea of what you want !
Also write down every change you make, every tip you might want to give to your future testers/ customers.
Good luck in your journey otherwise ! :man_fairy:t4:

i mostly design amigurumi, here’s my tips <3

  • here’s an example of two rows ;
    R3: [sc, inc] ×6 (18)
    R4: 18sc (18)
The space in between the square brackets shows what you need to repeat, with the ×6 saying how many times.
The number in the normal brackets is the stitch count. I like to use different bracket shapes because it’s easier to differentiate what the pattern is telling you to do.
When you’re making something like a tail that’s worked within the rounds, i tend to do something like this {ch7, starting in the 2nd ch from your hook, 6sc down the ch}. Rather than having to write it out again, if you had to repeat that you can then just say “rep from { to }”

If it’s your first time making patterns, it’s probably best to start off with basic shapes. Then you can work up to much more complex patterns.

it’s a learning process, and you’ll eventually find your style and what works for you!! can’t wait to see what you come up with!!

Oh welcome to designing it’s so much fun.
Here’s my tips
Final measurements of finished piece
How much yarn did you use
Gauge
Detailed instructions if your using certain stitches.

I’ll leave it at that so others can contribute as well.

What helped me is I looked at how stitches were used in other patterns and what shapes they created and also how to make basic shapes.
