Pattern Pare Down Challenge (All Welcome!)

Hello all! My name is Meisha, and I am a pattern…collector.

That is to say, I seem to hoard patterns like a dragon with treasures, but don’t actually use them. I really want to change this, however, and so I thought a great way to work through my pattern stash aka make way for new patterns would be to do an accountability thread with periodic check-ins, at least once a week, but hopefully more! I’m also hoping it will help me get a little more organized with my yarn stash, my pattern boards, and archiving things that are no longer of interest to me.

Last time I did this type of ā€œchallengeā€ as a yarn destash event with the community it was super fun and helpful, so I hope to replicate that energy here! I don’t know if anyone else is like me in this regard, but please consider this an open invitation to any other pattern collectors (or simply, interested parties) to join in and share their efforts, as well! This is super casual and you can share whenever works for you! No one is required to do this next part if they tag along, but I’m also going to try my best to not buy new patterns until I’ve worked through at least five I already own. I’ll personally be focusing on my ribblr pattern library because I’ve accrued the most patterns here.

I have been mulling over a couple options in my head as to how to proceed with pattern selection for this pattern pruning event, but ultimately I think I’m going to just go chronologically, oldest to newest, because that seems easiest and perhaps it will showcase some older patterns to our newer Ribblr users in the process. I may skip around as needed due to yarn requirements, but will try to move mostly in a linear fashion through my patterns. If enough people are interested in joining and decide it would be fun to have more guided weekly prompts, I’m open to making some, as well!

Thanks for reading my rambles - hope some of you will participate, and if not, I hope you don’t mind me sharing my pattern library & completed projects here to keep me motivated and on task! :orange_heart:

Almost forgot my first anticipated project is this little poppable mushroom frog pattern:

I might join too! Also, I’ve been wanting to tell you this for a while- I simply love the way you use your words! It’s fantastical without being frivolous, simply beautiful.

I have been wanting to do this also. I will join in. I need a LOT of small gifts for Christmas and have not started yet. Luckily, I already own your first pattern to make, or I would have collected it also. Ha. It will be fun to see your makes. This will be good.

Basically we work our way through the patterns we’ve collected and try not to get any more until we have made at least 5 of the patterns we have (this is optional)
It’s like a stash buster but patterns instead of yarn

One done. My make and the pattern links below. I decided I would put ones I’ve already done in archive. See what’s left.

This is seriously the greatest challenge I’ve heard about in a long time!! :sob::raising_hands:t2::clap:t2::clap:t2: Kudos!!
I am SUCH A PATTERN GOBLIN!! I’m always buying these patterns when they go on sale, and hoarding them in my stash like I will eventually get around to them, but then the cycle continues of never ending hoarding/ignoring my stash. :sob::woman_facepalming:t3::broken_heart: These neglected patterns deserve some love too!!:face_holding_back_tears::purple_heart::sparkles: I think I’ll have to join up as well!! I’d LOVE to see everyone’s progress as well! :heart_hands:t2:

Yay! Would happily have you join in ^.^

You’re so sweet, my friend; thank you! I certainly am verbose, haha, but after trying to fight it for so long, I decided to embrace it (especially after a kind person once told me that my manner of speaking felt warm and encouraging). I can’t tell you how much it means to hear that someone enjoys my diction as a person who is definitely still self conscious about how they write/talk.

You’re always the first to leave a considerate word, which is a beautiful way to be - thank you for all the joy and kindness you spread here!

Oh my goodness, I’m so happy to have you join us Marilyn! I can’t wait to see your projects, and what a great idea to use this as a chance to work through that Christmas list Honored to have you own one of my patterns:smiling_face: This will absolutely be good; now that my silly little migraine has passed I am eager to start & share!

Sorry for the delay, but T1R3dKn1tt3r is correct! Basically its just a way for us to work through our pattern stashes and cheer each other on, especially those of us who have a tendency to harbor a lot without actually making them! If you want to share you can share your finished projects or even share the pattern link youre working on. And ofc there is the option to hold off on buying until you make a certain number, but there’s no requirements there.

I hope that makes more sense - sorry for the confusion! And I agree!

Yes! This exactly! Thank you so much for answering while I was away - appreciate it!

Delighted to have you!!

Same here!!! I’ve actually been wanting to do this for like a year now because the sheer number I’ve accrued since I have joined is, quite frankly, frightening  I’d love to see what you’re working on if you end up joining us!

 Exactly! I’m glad it’s not just me who seems to have a compulsion to GET ALL THE PATTERNS! Would be great to have you join us Daemi!

Great work! And I like your thinking! It’ll be fun to see them sort of disappear as you make your way through the library.

Myself, I think I will try to start organizing them into boards, but only if I think I will remake the pattern anytime soon; otherwise, I’ll store them in the archive, as well!

Wonderful! Stoked to have another person join in! And ooh thank you so much! I have no idea where it came from exactly, but I’m besotted with this little critter. Love your handle btw!

Way to go! The little stripes on that one are so cute!

Yours came out so adorable! I love it!

Thank you! I was just hoping I wasn’t alone out here with my titanic pattern library, so I’m happy others can understand and want to take part, as well! :joy: I do the same exact thing, though; I cant resist a good sale and there are a lot of them here! You’re so right, though - we gotta show some love to our older patterns and break the cycle! I believe in us! :flexed_biceps:

I can’t wait to see what projects you work on!

Ok NOW I get it! This is so cool!
Maybe we could make a seperat topic because this one is cluttered with replies? just a suggestion!

would a group chat/dm be possibly made to help in keeping track?

I promise you, there is no reason to dislike the way you speak/present yourself. I would say that almost everyone thinks you’re really kind, and I doubt anyone judges you for it. (They might even be impressed, lol)
