Pattern Photos

First of all, I don’t know what space to put this in, so if someone knows, let me know.

Now that I’ve started to gain a slight bit of popularity with my patterns (keyword=slight)
I want to take better photos for my patterns.
I have two questions

  1. Where do I take pictures? I live in a very dry area, so there’s no greenery except for a single skinny tree.
  2. If I want to change photos for a pattern, will it remove it from libraries?
That’s all I have to say I guess
    Thank you!

  1. Do it outside, in front of a wall or fence that has a plain background. Take pictures when it’s sunny!
  2. No, it won’t! It’ll just update the pattern when you’re finished (someone correct me of I’m wrong, but I’m almost positive)

  1. Natural lighting is key :sparkles: you can take pictures inside, but make sure you are facing away from the window so the light is on your product! And absolutely NO LIGHTS ON in the room you’re taking pictures in. It gives it too much yellow! Also make sure there’s no clutter in your photos!
  2. The pattern won’t be removed from libraries! It will move to your drafts (unpublished) until you republish it and update for those who have your pattern already!

Another thing to note: you can edit your photos (I use the editing tools in photos and the Photoroom app), just don’t do too much or it will look too unnatural :face_with_peeking_eye:

from a photographer student, definitely take the pictures in sunlight if possible! it makes a big difference in quality.

i myself remove backgrounds in most of my pattern pictures (there are many free tools in internet to do that), to make sure they all keep having an unified look, but even if you do that, it helps if the background is neutral to begin with! it isn’t neccesary to have much in the background, as long as the product is shown clearly :) you can also use canva to decorate it!

also, make sure you have enough space around the product. it’s always easier to crop the picture than expand it :)

if you decide to use canva (it’s free), google the size of ribblr’s pattern pictures so that you won’t crop anything important out!
