so I am in a predicament. I am making this for a commission (see attached images) and it is over two feet tall and I am making five outfits, three of witch are really complex (look up marroon cream sailor moon outfit, spooky outfit, and Alice and wonderland outfit) along with her two classic red and blue dresses. I have no idea how to price this seeing as this is the largest project that I have ever done, so I need some advice on how much would be a fair price.
I have NO IDEA, i have never sold stuff before. But gl!
@RisingPhoenix, 1. How long did it take
2. How much should you use on the other outfits and what you already used (yarn) ???
3. did you use any patterns or plan to for anything, if so how much were the patterns, or were they free??? once you answer these questions I could give you an estimate
it’s still being worked on I used two skins of yarn already and it’s going to be many more like maybe three or four maybe fve more and I am making my own pattern
okay, so how long has it taken so far, do you think it should take longer because you are still making outfits???
it should take longer then so far it has taken over seven hours
so should in total take around 10 hours???
over 10 hours
12???
maybe lets go with 12 for now
how much for each ball of yarn???
like $4
okay, so if you earn $10/hr then you should probably price it at $150-$180, if you want to earn $12/hr then probably $165-$190.
okay
I do the cost of the yarn/materials x3 on my commisions. I personally don’t charge hourly cause it would be sorta unfair with how my working hours are. But you can and some people do charge hourly on top of that should you want to. I think itd be fair considering how much work your putting in on the outfits and making your own patterns.
I also think the price suggested above is fair too! Pricing things is hard, everyone does it sorta different too.
If you check out Etsy prices this should be AT LEAST 100 bucks
you used worsted weight yarn and are making 3 complex outfits too ;-;
i will say though that its best to decide on a price beforehand since the customer might back down if it hasn’t been set first.
yes, luckily my coustimer is so nice and she agreed on a price that is fair and over $100, she was prepared and she is so nice ($160)
oh ok thats good cuz ik some ppl expect to pay way less and aren’t as understanding. Is this your first commission?
one of my first and the biggest commission I’ve ever done
oo thats cool :D just make sure to decide on a price before. It can be based on complexity or size (prices can vary with different types of yarn) or whatever works for you. Discuss it with your customers ^^ that way everyone has a set expectation
you probably already knew that though O_o
