Does anyone here use procreate?
If so, then how do I use it? I’ve had it for a while now but idk how to use the brushes, what brushes are good or how to use the layers and all the layer things like alpha lock?!??
Any tips would be great but @Breadlicker you can’t escape ik you use procreate

hi!!! ill try to do the best that i can here :3
so, alphalock doesnt let you draw outside of the layer ypu’re already on. this is great if you do colored lineart so you dont have to do the whole thing over again
clipping masks are the same thing, but for the layer below. so when a clipping mask is applied to, lets say, a grey blob, you can only color in the blob and not around it, but the grey blob is still on the layer :3
i hope that made at least a little sense, im really bad at explaining

Brushes are really dependent on your coloring preferences, and you can edit them as you need
I like marker roll, procreate pencil and the flat and round brushes. Gel pen is good for sketching if you reduce the opacity, and Evolve is my favorite for line art.
Experiment with brushes and have fun with them.
The sections “vintage” “luminance” “elements” and “materials” are all novelty and you can use them however you want, they’re really just there for fun.
Hard airbrush is the best eraser. And avoid the airbrushes for shading unless you wanna add a subtle gradient.
The blending modes are all really confusing and I forget what each one does, but overlay is really good for shading

Oop I’ve been using soft airbrush for shading lol what should I use?
Oh for overlay, use whatever color you like but make sure you lower the opacity as you need because it can be very strong. Also it’s not good at shading white. So you’ll need to use a lot of layers
Here’s some examples

I recommend using the flat or round brush, they should be under the painting section. You can smudge if you need but I’d recommend not using it too much

Whenever I smudge it basically erases the whole drawing
Lower the opacity of the smudge and use an airbrush or a opacity-pressusre sensitive brush like gouache or medium hard airbrush
