So I hadn’t even thought about it until early and was hoping you guys could give me some answers?
So if I go to market or sell my makes of Etsy or somthin, can I use free patterns of here? ( ribblr ) or do I have to like ask the creator of the pattern or something? Thanks for any answers
typically the creator will say if you can or can’t, if they don’t, I would reach out first (:
Nine times out of 10 you are able to sell what you make. You are not allowed to sell the pattern itself.
Thats what I thought, just the makes but I wanted to make sure I wasn’t disrespecting anyone or something .
Good on you for actually caring and being considerate!
generally it’s nice to give credit to who wrote the pattern, which is a lot easier at etsy so that’s where it would be expected- even creators who don’t want it sold on etsy i suspect would have no problems with markets. other than that what everyone else said!
Thank you!
If you sell your makes of Ribblr patterns here on Ribblr, the designer actually earns a royalty. So it helps the Ribblr designer. They don’t earn a lot, but still they earn a royalty Ribblr help center | What are designers royalties? How much can I earn and how do I get paid?
The help center has more information on how this works
Copyright only applies to the wording and the designer photos in the pattern itself. The designer usually has no say in what you do with the finished product. Copyright laws do vary from country to country so it would be best to consult a competent intellectual property attorney as to what the rules are in your country
If you give some cred to the creator it would be ok? Im thinking about selling an item that is slightly close to a pattern from another and if i name it after the creator then it would be fine.
In the terms for a pattern it use to say that you just need to name the creator then right?
We actually include something like this (see below) in all our pattern intros as we are happy for people to make and sell using our patterns.
Copyright Statement - You do not have permission to reproduce or distribute this pattern, whether mechanically, electronically or any other means, including photocopying. You do have permission for items made from any of my patterns to be sold either for charity or personal profit.
