Hi Ribblrs, It’s Lir here (co-founder of Ribblr).
I can’t believe I’m writing this, but Ribblr just turned five
Back in 2019, Ribblr was nothing more than an idea in my head. As a lifelong crafter, I kept running into the same frustrations - trying to track my pattern progress and adjusting sizes, and as a designer - constantly compressing PDFs and failing to protect my work.
I just knew there had to be a better way.
On October 1st, 2020, right in the middle of the pandemic, Ribblr launched.
I didn’t know what to expect. We were a new force in an industry that hadn’t evolved in decades, but one with the most creative audience in the world that deserved so much more.
The one thing I did know? Our mission was strong enough to push us forward: to make it easier to create, design, and share with each other.
Fast forward five years, and Ribblr has grown so much. This year alone, millions of crafters have used Ribblr. It goes to show just how much crafting is loved and needed worldwide, and how much more we can do together.
Behind the scenes, a lot has happened in my personal life too. I became a mom after a pretty traumatic pregnancy. I won’t lie - it was really hard (and still is - shoutout to all moms ). I was taking meetings from hospital beds, trying to lead Ribblr while taking care of myself and a little one.
But Ribblr’s mission and this community kept me going.
I’m really proud of our journey.
In the 5 short years, we’ve released new features, tools, and improvements every single week.
Some we celebrated together, others we quietly rolled out. We’re talking hundreds of features! And so many of them came from you - your feedback, your suggestions, and the way you use Ribblr. You’ve taught me so much.
So what I really want to say is thank you.
Thank you for trusting us. Thank you for your critique, and your encouragement.
Without you, we couldn’t have built the most welcoming, positive community I’ve ever been part of.
Our innovation is continue to be shaped by you.
In just 9 months of 2025, we’ve launched our Glow-Up update, introduced Gems as a new way to get premium patterns, and hosted events like Pattern May-hem, our Spring Sale, Ribblr+ Quest, the Annual Awards, plus our Monthly Challenges, Postcards, Lucky Sundays, Flash Thursdays, and Freebie Fridays.
And the most exciting things are yet to come. Starting tomorrow with something very special: Ribblr Treat!
Here’s to the next five years, and to all of you for making Ribblr what it is today
Let’s keep showing the world just how important and powerful crafting is.
With love and (a ton of) gratitude,
Lir
