Say hello to Batty @theBattyCrocheter - our new Ribblr of the Week and the designer behind theBatty_Crocheter ![]()
Tell us a little about yourself:
Hi, I’m Batty! I’ve been crocheting for almost 2 years now, and I’m a crochet pattern designer and tester. I enjoy crafts of all types, reading, watching documentaries, and going on hikes!
When did you start crafting and how?
In 2023, I went to a craft fair, and there was a vendor selling crochet amigurumi. I loved it so much, and really wanted to learn myself. I went to a beginner course, and from there I started crocheting with the help of Youtube tutorials to learn new techniques!
How did you start designing?
When I first started crocheting, I freehanded most of my stuff, and sometimes wrote down the pattern, and as I progressed, started to find my own style I liked!
Do you have a favorite craft type and if so - why?
Crochet! I’ve done sewing and crosstitch, but nothing really compares to crochet. I love how you can create anything from your imagination, and it still amazes me how you can turn yarn into something wonderful.
What was the most memorable project you worked on?
Oh, definitely a Honduran ghost bat, I made a little while ago. It took quite awhile to get the design I liked, but I’m really happy with how it turned out! It got way bigger than I expected, going up to 72 stitches around in just the head!
What is your usual process for designing?
Usually, I’ll get an idea, and sort of sketch out what I think would work to create that design. From there, I think about what techniques and yarn I’ll use to make it all work, changing my ideas as needed while crocheting.
What inspires you to create?
So many things, my family, the world around me, and animals a lot of the time, I have a lot of fun freehanding specific species of animals, and seeing how realistic I can get them! Sometimes, if I really like it, I’ll go back and make a pattern for it.
What are you currently working on? Be honest - how many WIP do you have right now?
I probably have 3-5 WIPS, that I may have given up on
. Right now I’m working on some patterns I’m really excited to share, but they are a secret for now ![]()
Which of your makes/designs are you most proud of? Share a picture!
Ah, so many, but here are a few that are either my designs or tests I did here on Ribblr:
Any favorite song, book or movie you would like to recommend?
Hmmm, probably these books: The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings series, The Swifts, and Best of All Worlds! I really enjoy reading books, it’s the best pastime when you’re not crocheting, and these are some of my favorites!
What is your favorite feature on Ribblr?
I really like how you can cross off rows/rounds as you go, it’s really helpful, since you don’t need to count the rows yourself. It’s also an easy way to keep track of your progress!
Where can people find you online?
I’m usually online here on Ribblr!
A shoutout to your favorite designers on Ribblr !
Oh, I have so many, but probably these amazing designers:
