Say hello to @EnterShopNameGuy - our new Ribblr of the Week and designer behind Enter shop name! ![]()
Tell us a little about yourself:
Hi! I’m EnterShopNameGuy, a crochet designer based in Canada, and I’m also really into STEM and how things are built and structured. I love problem-solving, experimenting, and figuring out how simple shapes can turn into something fun and functional. Most of my designs are playful and squishy, and I enjoy turning slightly wacky ideas into patterns that are approachable and enjoyable to make.
When did you start crafting and how?
It all started at school during a day where we could choose to learn anything we wanted for the entire school day. I chose crochet and made a very questionable, extremely ripply circle using YouTube tutorials. Somehow, I kept going. I continued practicing, improving, and eventually stumbled across Ribblr while searching for patterns, and that pretty much sealed the deal.
And how did you start designing?
I started designing shortly after finding Ribblr. Seeing so many creators sharing their work made it feel less intimidating to try making my own patterns. I wanted to create and share my own wacky ideas, and once I discovered how easy Ribbuild was to use, I just started writing and experimenting.
Do you have a favorite craft type and if so - why?:
Definitely crochet. It’s one of the most versatile crafts out there. You can create almost any shape with just yarn, a hook, and a bit of knowledge. I love how logical it is while still being creative.
What was the most memorable project you worked on?
My JUMBO Toasty Frogger, without a doubt. It’s incredibly squishy and huggable, and it somehow became one of my dog’s favorite pillows. It’s currently in testing and will be my first paid pattern, which makes it even more special.
What are you currently working on? Be honest - how many WIP do you have right now?
Right now, I’m working on a 6-day star blanket and Giant Goostav the Goose. Both are very ambitious and very large projects that I’m already in love with. I also have a few abandoned WIPs sitting in a bin. I’ve set a rule for myself to finish all existing WIPs before starting any new patterns, we’ll see how that goes.
What inspires you to create/design?
The Ribblr community and Pinterest are huge sources of inspiration for me. Pinterest gives me endless ideas, and the people on Ribblr give me the confidence to actually try making them. If I get stuck while designing or writing a pattern, there’s always someone willing to help.
Which of your makes/designs are you most proud of? Share a picture!
I’m really proud of a self-designed granny square blanket made with some super unique yarns. Most of the squares were made on a road trip, and the project kind of took over the entire trip. After finally joining them all together, it ended up being way smaller than expected, so I added a border and it still barely qualifies as a lap blanket. Still proud of it though.
What is your usual process of designing?:
I usually just start crocheting and see where it goes. Sometimes I’ll sketch ideas in Procreate, mainly to help explain them to others, but a lot of it happens directly with yarn in hand. It often takes two or more attempts to refine a design, but the end result usually turns out pretty solid.
Any favorite song, book or movie you would like to recommend?:
I really enjoy Mother Mother, especially Love Stuck and Hayloft. While crocheting, I like watching shows like 9-1-1 or The Rookie since the plots are engaging but easy to follow while working.
What is your favorite feature on Ribblr?
Ribbuild, hands down. I love how intuitive it is and how many tools it has to make patterns clear and descriptive. Once you get the hang of it, the testing process is also super streamlined.
What socials can folks find you on?
You can find me on YouTube and Pinterest, where I post finished projects, announcements, memes, and upcoming v-patterns. YouTube: https://youtube.com/@entershopnameguy Pinterest: https://pin.it/2gtZt43d4
