Say hello to Katie (@katiebeingcreative )- our new Ribblr of the Week and the designer behind Katiebeingcreative
Tell us a little about yourself
My name is Katie and I’m 21 years old! I was born and raised in the Tampa Florida area, and now live in St. Pete (so not too far away). I’ve always loved crafting and tried all types of crafting hobbies, but crochet was really the only one that stuck!
When did you start crafting and how?
My grandma crocheted when I was young. I always thought it was the coolest thing to be able to make anything you wanted from yarn! Although my grandma wasn’t able to teach me by the time I wanted to learn, I was lucky enough to have a friend that taught me how to crochet when I was 16.
And how did you start designing?
I started pattern designing about a year after I learned to crochet. I had a ton of ideas for what I wanted to crochet and I searched endlessly to find patterns that matched what I had in my head. When I couldn’t find anything that matched what I had in mind I decided I would freehand my own design, and the rest is history!
Do you have a favorite craft type and if so - why?
Crochet is 100% my favorite craft type! Since I started crocheting I really haven’t done many other crafts, it was quite literally love at first stitch! And I guess you could say I was hooked!
What has been the most memorable project you worked on?
My most memorable projects have to be ones that I have gotten to donate. I’ve donated quite a lot of my crochet over the years.
Which of your makes/designs are you most proud of?
The project that I’m most proud of is how I coordinated with a family behind Marshall Honey Bee Rescue to bring the crochet community together by donating amigurumi bees. This was through the Bee With You Comfort For Cancer project which gave bees to cancer patients. You can find information on this donation project over on my Instagram! Being able to donate and inspire others to donate has been incredible!
What is your favorite feature on Ribblr?
My favorite feature on Ribblr is being able to cross off rows in a pattern as I’m making it! It makes it so much easier to follow along as I’m crocheting!
Who are some designers you would like to give a shoutout to?
My top 3 Designers on Ribblr would have to be: @PunkinPatchCrochet, @crochetbykelsie , and @LorettasLoops , although I have a lot of favorites!
Thanks so much for being here this week Katie, it’s a pleasure reading about you!
