Say hello to Sasha @SashasStitchcraft - our new Ribblr of the Week and the designer behind SashasStitchCraft
Tell us a little about yourself:
Hi, my name is Sasha! I love to crochet plushies and I am the creator behind Sasha’s Stitchcraft. When I’m not crocheting, I enjoy dancing, reading, painting, journaling, making digital art, and spending time in nature.
When did you start crafting and how?
Although I’ve been crafting since before I can remember, I began learning to crochet amigurumi about 2 years ago, in September 2023. I was intrigued by crochet artists on YouTube and Pinterest, and was sure that I wanted to make things just like them. Luckily, my Mom knows how to crochet and was able to teach me a few basic stitches. From there, I just followed YouTube tutorials.
How did you start designing?
After lots of practice with following patterns, I learned how various shapes are formed using different techniques. I had ideas to create things I couldn’t find patterns for, so I experimented until I found my own style.
Do you have a favorite craft type and if so - why?
My favorite craft is definitely crochet! The possibilities of things to create are infinite, and there are so many unique ways to go about it. Turning a ball of yarn into something from your imagination is quite unbelievable! I also love how easy it is to learn and share with others, with there being so many patterns and tutorials out there.
What was the most memorable project you worked on?
It’s so hard to choose just one, but I’ll have to go with the chickens I recently crocheted for my neighbor. She requested 8 chickens made to look like each of her 8 chickens. It was my largest order yet, and a lot of hard work with plenty of hand cramping, but I’m really proud of myself for completing that task!
What is your usual process for designing?
When I get an idea for a pattern, I usually start by collecting reference photos and sketching a design. I like to keep in mind different techniques I want to use, as well as proportions. Then I get started with my hook and yarn, trying to recreate the shapes I sketched out, and write the pattern as I go along.
What inspires you to create?
There are so many things that inspire me! Animals, movies, nature, family, and friends, just to name a few. Mainly though, it’s other crocheters, especially those from the Ribblr community!
What are you currently working on? Be honest - how many WIP do you have right now?
I’m currently working on a miniature nativity set for my Aunt! I’m also writing up some patterns to go up on my Etsy shop in the near future.
Which of your makes/designs are you most proud of? Share a picture!
These are a few of my favorites!
Any favorite song, book or movie you would like to recommend?
Ooh, yes! Lately I’ve been listening to Imagine Dragons and Coldplay. Also, I would recommend the Hunger Games, Lunar Chronicles, and Harry Potter book series. If you’re looking for some good movies, watch Studio Ghibli! Ponyo is my favorite!
Share a funny story that happened to you recently!
I recently went to girls camp and played a few good rounds of charades. We acted out some pretty random things, including Moana, Peter Pan, and a… dead dog dying?
What is your favorite feature on Ribblr?
My favorite feature on Ribblr is the testing zone! There are so many great pattern testers here, and for me it is a lot easier than putting out tester calls on social media.
Where can people find you online?
