Can someone explain it to me like I’m a 4 year old? It’s so hard for me to tell on some projects, others a breeze. Is there a trick? I guess its certain stitches that I have issues with, couldn’t say which off the top of my head.
I feel a bit silly asking, but this is the place to do it, right?
I bet someone here can help me.
Normally (a crochet pattern, is crochet stitches what you mean?) tells you which row is the right side and which is the wrong side. I usually take a locking stitch marker or use a contrasting color of a piece of waste yarn to mark the right side
Same idea works with knitting
Thank you, how didn’t i think of that one?
With crochet as you mostly work back and forth it would be hard to tell one side from the other. Marking the right side helps tell them apart. At least it does for me
Yeah, I think that’s my problem.
Usually (not always). Row 1 is the right side. As every pattern is different you would have to look at your specific pattern closely to see what it says
I dont think this is what you asked, but just in case to cover all basis lol
In crochet, when working on rounds, for the most part (for me its 99.9% of the time) the side with your beginning tail is the wrong side.
But the proper way to check is if you see horizontal lines then thats your “wrong” side…
Also, as per a quick google search
All of my patterns tell you on the first and second rows, or if it does not matter
In knitting its actually referred to as public and private, but nobody seems to say that any more.
General rules
If they are not marked in the pattern, then it would be the side that has the texture as your right side. Like if you did stitches that are supposed to sit proud or create a smooth front verses a grooved/ridged back
Otherwise, pic the side you like best and call that the right side and stick to it.
Using a marker of a different color is exactly how you are supposed keep track.
This is the easiest way I have ever seen it. I am the world’s worst googler! Lol!
Thanks!
I’ve usually just been picking whatever side looks better, hope it’s been the right one!
Yeah, like I said, unless there is a stitch that requires it. As long as all your pieces match, most of the time it won’t matter
If doing rows, I go off of where the tail for the beginning chains is at.
And the beginning is on your right if you’re right handed. That’s your first row.
