school market problems

So, my school set up an artist market (a small thing, just in the lobby at lunch in about a week) and the poster to sign up just said the date, time, and place and to sign up with what you’ll be selling. I was planning to make a TON of stuff to sell and I made most of it already. Earlier, there was an announcement at a morning meeting saying that they would take 10% of our profits for a school fundraiser. This was not on the poster, or anywhere. I’m pissed because now I don’t get all my profit. Should I completely back out, or overprice my things so when I lose 10% i still get profit? help me

That happened to me but at my school there is a christmas fair but only for people who do buisness so I asked if I could do it as well and they said yes and that I of course would give all the money to the school so I got no profit :sob:

I’m doing a library market today, and I have to give 10 percent. But I’m not marking things up, because people might not buy at that price, and then I’d still make less profit. But, that’s just me. I also love the library, and I don’t mind giving them 10 percent

Go 10% up on price so the school still gets their profit and you get your expected earnings

As an example you have a plush for $5 make is 5.50- 5.75 to make the 10% back. So that way your still true to your prices but still can give 10%

i agree with raising your prices by 10 percent, especially since alot of crochet artists underprice their products

I feel like nobody’s gonna buy them then though, because they’re middle and high schoolers that don’t have much money to spend

while that may be true, what the school did was kinda dirty, so if they ask why it’s so high, tell them that the school didn’t tell you that you had do give part of your profit until after you signed up

Some thing I noticed with kids as if they’re cute or some thing that they’re very interested and $.75-$.50 is not gonna make a difference whether they purchase it or not cause they’re gonna want it cause trinkets

THIS!!! I have had many people ask me to make them things and they are more than willing to pay $20 for a smallish/medium sized plush that doesn’t take THAT much time to make

I sell at a couple stores that do consignment. One takes 25% and the other takes 20%. My favorite pop up boutique to sell at is central checkout so they also have a consignment fee, at 15%. In order to make sure I’m still making enough money for the time it takes me to make my items, I include any fees in my price. It is a business expense so it should be factored into the price. This also goes for any other selling related fees (Etsy fees, credit card processing fees, etc). That’s my business perspective.

You could always post a sign stating that your prices have been increased by 10% to cover booth fees. Raising your prices by less than a buck (in many, if not most, cases) shouldn’t be much of an issue though.

U should definitly overcharge. Its not fair for them to leave this kind of stuff out, and u worked on the products. Good luck with the fair!
