Hello everyone,
It is the Season of Giving, and I’m sure we all have gifts in mind for that special someone, family member, friend, or loved one we plan on making for them, and of course I do too, but I have another idea in mind. My mom is a 4th grade teacher and she has a lot of kids in her class that she calls the “have nots.” The have nots are the kids in her class that don’t have much money, much time with their parents, much food, clothes, and other things like toys and experiences that many other kids were blessed with. Some of them also come from neglectful or abusive households. Although the school system provides through funds for some of these families, it doesn’t provide for the kids who need it most. Some families also just don’t sign up to receive the benefits. I am one person, and although I wish I could assist and help all these kids and give them everything they don’t have, I can’t. I asked my mom if there were any kids in her class who are most likely going to be entirely neglected this Christmas and she gave me one kid’s name. I will not disclose this kid’s name for her safety, but I have decided to make her some gifts. Of course I could buy her something special for cheap, but that does not, to me at least, show someone that you individually care and took time and effort to make something for them. You can buy something for anyone, but being able to say that you took personal time out of your life to make something handmade and special shows that you care. I am making her a card, a hat, and a stuffed animal.
I was also thinking of starting a crochet club in my town for people who want to learn and for people who already know. I want the club to be a sort of charity, where we make projects for people in nursing homes or for kids in the school district who don’t have much. Of course, not all projects made in the club have to be for charity, some can be for yourself or markets, but I thought it could be a good idea.
Honestly, I think that if you can, find someone who may not necessarily be a part of your life or your everyday, and make something special for them. It can go a long way. It can show whoever it is that someone out there sees them and cares.
Thank you,
Zod/Jay
