Selling Patterns Without Stripe – Any Advice for a South African Designer?

Hi!!! :collision:

I’m based in South Africa :south_africa: and in the process of testing my very first pattern on Ribblr (a special ballerina bunny I designed for my daughter :rabbit:) with amazing testers ofc! I’m absolutely loving the platform and the community here—it’s such a joy to connect with fellow makers!

However, I’ve run into a bit of a challenge: Stripe isn’t available in South Africa, so I can’t receive payments for my paid patterns that I would like to add. I know Ribblr is working on expanding access, but I was wondering:

:dizzy: Has anyone else found a workaround for this?
:dizzy: Any tips on growing your Ribblr audience while selling elsewhere like Ko‑fi ?
:dizzy: Is it okay to link buyers to my free patterns here or offer Ribblr versions after purchase elsewhere?

I’d really appreciate any advice, experience, or ideas—especially from fellow designers in countries where Stripe isn’t supported yet. Thank you so much in advance for your support and kindness.

Warmly,
PuffZella!

Thanks, I did send @Ribblr an email. They forwarded me to support with some suggestions. I was just curious what other designers with this issue is doing?

Should I send Ribblr shoppers to ravelry to buy them? I really like the way ribblr does the patterns.

It’s really up to you. There are designers that put stuff in Ribblr and it does generate traffic to others areas you link your shop to. For example, you can put in your instagram handle.
Having free patterns and tester calls within Ribblr helps generate traffic to your Ribblr shop-so I’ve heard.
I don’t have a shop, don’t sell anything, but have found designers on Ribblr that I then followed on o other platforms.
Specific question about the workaround for stripe. Have you asked Ribblr per DM that specific question?

Anyway, welcome!
