This might beva long shot on here for answers since you cant see the issue but…
When i step down on my pedal my machine wont always work, like the needle wont move or i cant thread my bobbin, but then itll work for a few seconds, then stop, then go, ect.
Inhave a brother st371hd (i might have the numbers mixed up). I got in 2021 and i use it fairly regularly. This just started last night after almost all day and the day before with no issues. I contacted brothers support and they weren’t very helpful and told me to do everything that google did. But has anyone ever had this happen? Do i need a new machine?
Also the manual says not to oil

You might want to get it checked, just in case. I don’t own a meachine, but I have used one multiple times and this isn’t normal.

Is it making a sound the whole time you are pressing down on the pedal, or does the sound start and stop too?

I had this happen to my Janome. I replaced the pedal but that didn’t help , toke to shop and they replaced the plugin hole on machine still didn’t help and to use the start/stop button. But that got old so just brought a new machine. Hope u have better luck.

I found a place thats an hournaway on google but it looks a little sketchy but i might try
No it doesn’t. I thought maybe my cord could be bad but at the same time my light stays on… granted it is a split cord
My aunt used to sew but i dont know how much she knows about the mechanics nowadays especially since this is a newer machine (it came out like 8 years ago or something)

Is it a plastic pedal?
It says don’t oil because it’ll likely contain plastic parts. Oil & grease wear plastic down. But you should be able to open the head & remove dust from the shaft.
Lift your pedal up if it’s plastic & use your hands to activate it & find out if there’s an interruptions in the electric current, you’ll likely be able to hear the slight buzz they make.
If you can hear interruptions, use you machines serial number to find a replacement part online, you don’t necessarily have to buy direct from brother for a foot pedal.
If it had cut out completely they first thing you start with changing the fuse in the power plug, but you said it’s intermittent, so likely an issue in the pedal.
I personally prefer older machines with metal pedals, some I’ve used with plastic pedals have a delay on them, then suddenly take off at speed, which I think is a bit dangerous, especially if they’re new to sewing.

There was a buzzing i was able to hear. I ended up getting a new pedal of amazon a few days after i made this post and im not having any major issues. The light is a little funny now (on when the machine isnt running/off when it is tunning) but im not sewing in the dark so its fine. This was very helpful though. Thank you so much

Maybe the connector on the machine is going funny, they make them hard to put the plug in and hard to get the plug out, which doesn’t do the consumer any favours at all. My nans machine is a flat plug, 3-4 pins in a line that looks like something off a 80s printer and the other one in the usual 3 flat prong chunky plug. I do wonder which will break first tbh. Hoping it’s not my nans because the guy she bought it off has just retired and shut his shop

Maybe. My machine isnt considered old. I just got it 2021 or 2022. I did get the cheapest pedal i could so maybe that has something to do with it. Brother’s cupport wasnt helpful at all. I did live chat with 3 people and they all ended up ghosting me.
