sewing machines that can sew through crochet

hello everyone! as some of you know, im working on a hige tapestry that im going to turn into a patchwork tapestry blanket. i want to put a fabric backing on it for a couple reasons (to hide the color change side and to have a softer material on the side that touches my skin). as scared as i am of sewing machines, there’s no way i am hand stitching a backing onto this thing. so, what type of sewing machine is steong enough to sew through a layer of crochet and fabric?

I sewed a liner to my bag and I hand sewed it and it was pretty easy but for a blanket it would take way longer, idk about the sewing machine… I have 2 but barely use them so I would recommend hand sewing lol DONT LISTEN TO ME

I don’t really know, since I haven’t worked with sewing machines. I would probably recommend using like embroidery thread and making sure to fold over the fabric onto the sides so it’s just not a bear edge.

Would probably need a commercial-grade sewing machine for something that thick. Would be better off hand sewing. I will experiment with mine sometime because thst would make things easier and faster!

I have an old worn out brother sewing machine that sews through crochet just fine! I don’t think you’d need anything heavy duty personally. Just a decent sewing machine, crochet might be thicker but its still on the softer side compared to jean or leather materials someone might use a heavy duty one for.

I have a Pfaff 360 Automatic (got it second hand) that can sew through crochet and a fleece backing easily. I’d just recommend being a bit slower and more careful on the edges, so your needle doesn’t break when you sew through more fabric.

the mentioned blanket and more details

The crocheted blanket is made with cotton (50g/130m) and the backing is just a fleece blanket I cut to size.
I first folded the blankets edges and sewed over them with a zigzag stitch, so the edges can’t fray and then I sewed it onto the back of the crochet piece - so I sewed through the crochet and two layers (4 layers on the edges, because I simply folded the edges over each other) of the fleece blanket.

I think you can use a Singer heavy duty sewing machine like this one:

I have it and i’ve sewn multiple layers of thick fabric with it before.
