stitch holder. I use them with cables, but there are actually several cable needles that look different, my favorite is one that looks like a shallow U that is open on both ends, but I just use what ever I have handy ;p

there 3 types of cable needles (grew up calling them cable jumps) one looks like the double point with a dip in the middle, one looks like a “j” and one that looks like a double point with grooves cut into it to make it less slippery

ok guys, after a little research, I discovered that there is a crochet technique for cables that uses live stitches (“live stitch cable” is the name for some reason lol) and it does use the same stitch holders in the smaller size to hold the stitches live.for later.
Now the mystery is solved as to why it was in a crochet kit.

I’ve always known you can use front post DC and tc it of order to create mock cables, but yeah I don’t crochet a lot so I didn’t know about the live stitches thing
