The number of times this stitch has fooled me…

This is one reason I’m OCD about using stitch markers!

They are so important, and helpful. Even on something with rows, first and last.

Absolutely! Sometimes I think I’m being lazy using so many, but then I realize it’s actually being efficient and much more effective. If you’re trying to be productive and a business, it’s time management. It cuts down on the number of time you have to count, frog and undo mistakes. These things are parts that I could never charge my clients. They were on me, as I thought of it. That’s when I became OCD about stitch markers. It made my work more efficient, and truthfully, more enjoyable. I wasn’t getting frustrated with having to frog all the time or figure out where my count had gone wrong THIS time.

Do you use more than one? (Genuinely asking, I wonder what the benefits of that may be.)

Yes. For example, I have one at the beginning of the round, and one later, at the beginning of the inc or Dec. Then, when I have to recount, I don’t have to go back as far. They are different enough, I know which is the beginning of the round. I have mistaken that before …

On an long chain, like a blanket, you could put one every 10 or 20 stitches. Helps in the long run.

Ooh, that seems super helpful. Thanks!

Right now I am making a round ish object with 4 inc around it. So I have one in each area to remind me. Again, one different to show the beginning. I will add a picture. or 2 …

Zoomed in on the one that shows where the beginning is. I just added a second smaller marker. I usually just use a piece of yarn added to the marker for that.

Ooh, I see! That’s really cool! I might start doing that now!

This is extremely helpful on those projects where the round/row goes on forever… If you have to stop midway for a reason (like going to the bathroom, getting called to eat) it is really a life saver

YES!! I use as many as possible actually. In a circle I use one at every increase, at any special stitch. Same with squares or rectangles, any shape. I color coordinate. That’s part of why I buy like 500 at a time. Amazon has some pretty good deals, as does/did eBay when I first started buying in bulk. In big projects, I use a stitch marker at least every 25 stitches so I don’t have to count as often. Before I pm (place marker) I double or even triple count to be sure, then move on to the next section. This takes a little time, but saves so much time and effort in the long run!! Then as I continue the rows, I move the markers down/up as I go. I do double check the count as I go, though, making sure I’m still on track.
