Started Learning How to Knit!

Hi! So I’ve started to learn how to knit recently, and I’m still working on my consistency. I was looking through YouTube about the different stitches and there are many different opinions. I know crochet already, and there are a lot of different stitches in that, but the knitting community refuses to tell me whether I have a lot incoming or not, so I’m asking you guys! Are there a lot of stitches or not that many to the point where it is possible to know all of them. Also, what are some go stitches to start out with? The video I’m using tells me I’m doing a knit stitch, but the internet has different opinions on what that looks like, so with your recommendations could you also add where I can find to learn it? Also what stitches would you recommend for knitting a hat and scarf? I wanna get an early start to Christmas presents for my parents since the yarn I’m using is not the thickest.

Thank you guys!

There are only 2 basic stitches, knit and purl, all other stitches are a combination of those two. Some good stitches to start out with are garter stitch, Stockinette stitch, ribbing, seed stitch. I would also recommend trying continental knitting , as it is easier for crocheters. Finally I would recommend knitting a scarf in ribbing or stockinette stitch, and the bottom of a hat in ribbing and the rest in stockinette stitch

You only need to know how to knit and pearl
All others are made from alternating those two stitches
Then after that you learn the increases and decreases
