Just wondering what everyone’s opinions on stitch markers are. I usually don’t use stitch markers and just count in my head, except for big projects with huge rounds of single crochets. But most of my crocheter friends say they always use stitch markers, so just wondering people’s opinions. Also, do you use yarn, plastic, or metal stitch markers?

I use stitch markers a lot! I use them with amigurumi especially bc there are rounds instead of chains and sc across the chains. Also, there’s metal stitch markers??? That’s cool! I just use plastic ones.

Yeah! The ones I use are kind of like metal hoops? You have to bend them every time you want to take them on or off though, so they’re kind of annoying.

I use stitch markers just as a way to make sure that even though I am counting in my head my head count matches what the stitch marker says. I also use stitch markers to notate where eyes etc need to go. I also use them when I cake my yarn. I make a slip knot and attach it to the stitch marker, then use the stitch marker to lock down the yarn so it doesn’t unravel and get tangled (again -_-) lol. Honestly, I think that’s what I end up using them for the most.
I like the plastic ones that look like little locks since you can get 100+ of them for like a dollar.

Stitch markers are a must for me. I have rlly bad memory, so I cannot remember the stitch count, even while im counting. For stitch markers tho, I actually use safety pins bc they don’t open as easily as normal markers and i just have a lot at home lol

i totally get not remembering stitch counts even while you’re counting! My mind starts to wander and I lose it lol.
When it comes to pattern designing and I have the math right for the pattern but the stitch count is wrong I always say when I start to have troubles:
“I can do math… I just can’t count.”
I’m so close to getting it put on a shirt XD.

I totally get that. I feel like I can never find any of my stitch markers or tapestry needles either. (Usually they’re lost in the couch cushions)

I use plastic but occasionally if I don’t have any around me I’ll use a bobby pin or an earring.

I have a stash of yarn off-cuts that I use as stitch markers, particularly for amigurami. It helps because I don’t have to remove the yarn each time, just flip it between stitches for the next row and it helps me track my rows as well.

I honestly love them (plastic ones)! They’re perfect for marking sewing stuff, holding things together, marking certain rnds, and of course keeping the start of the rnd. Game changer!
