Stolen patterns?

Is there anyway to report scammers on here? I see plenty of free patterns on here that are from different websites that people are profiting off of. I bought a grid that didn’t have instructions and then I go on Pinterest a few hours later and that exact grid is for free on there. I think the moderators need to help the community not get scammed a little better. I understand if it’s a customized pattern, but if you’re stealing grids off Pinterest and selling them, I think you need to be banned from this app. That was my second purchase and possibly my last on this app because I just don’t trust it. I love this app and I would love to have more trust in The moderators, making sure we’re buying patterns from actual artist and not scammers. Sorry for the long rant. I just can’t stand scamming aholes

yes I agree, there needs to be further precautions to make sure scammers don’t sell patterns on here.

Yeah that’s a hard thing to implement but should be in place for the artists out there.

i agree. i don’t know if anyone is familiar with the pocket pals pattern bundle but it’s a paid bundle with lots of cute patterns but it’s not sold on ribblr. i saw a tester call recently with an animal that looked EXACTLY like one of the patterns from the bundle. and the shop owner wasn’t the person who sells the pocket pals. i have screenshots but i’m unsure if that can help anyone

My #1 thing is to always look at journals. If a pattern doesn’t have any, you may be taking a little risk with the quality of the pattern.

You can also report a pattern. All you have to do is scroll down tho the bottom of the listing an ckick report. It is in small writing and says something along the lines of “if you think this violates ribblr’s conditons, report it.”

When you click on that, it takes you to a message template where you can tell ribblr what happened. If you think it is copied, you might have to link the original pattern. They can then remove the pattern.

Sadly I learned all of this yesterday when I saw that somebody stole another creator’s pattern:pensive:

Hope this helps!:yellow_heart:

Yes I think the same hoppe it wasn’t one of those expensive patterns and stilling patterns are a big problem like the ocktopus turtle leggy frog cows you don’t even know ho was the creator (don’t buy this patterns either because they are 100 for free

Tagging @Ribblr

@BEEutifulCreations - you can report it as @RainbowPenguin2 stated and Ribblr will take a look at everything.

Yes. I’ve seen something on Pinterest. A mushroom grid. Someone is selling it here for $1 and the photo is free on Pinterest.

I have also seen many patterns that look very similar to each other. If you copy the pattern and try to sell it or upload it for free, that seems wrong to me, but if you see something you like and want to try to replicate it by inventing a pattern yourself, I think it’s fine to make it for yourself.

Sorry you’ve had bad experience.

Firstly, we take reports very seriously. We have a thorough protocol and a team working across multiple timezones. We do remove patterns and shops if they violate our terms and conditions. The more evidence you could provide the easier it would be for our team.

Please note, pattern theft is a key reason we create Ribblr ePattern as unlike PDFs they cannot be shared and redistributed.

With that in mind, it’s also important to note that some patterns may be sold at for different prices. For example, we don’t charge a listing fee but most platforms do.
That’s why it’s best to always report patterns and users to us immediately.

It looks different enough to me, it looks like they just wanted to make their own version of it?

The ears are different, as well as the markings.
I wouldn’t say it’s stolen based on this picture. We can only make so many different shapes and stylizations. :woman_shrugging:

Yucky. Don’t like that. That’s pretty frustrating for everyone involved. Some places like Etsy I can’t list patterns for free, so I have all of mine listed at price, but I keep majority of patterns free on Ribblr for a couple of reasons: I’ve noticed most of the individuals on Ribblr are highschool age - or maybe younger, paying for patterns might not be in the wheelhouse yet, and because I like the platform and people are nice here. I hate Etsy and I’ll do anything to steer people to my other websites where I have stuff posted, but it is all under my name. I think a lot of it falls under is it inspo or is it theft, but much like someone said, if the grid patterns don’t have a journal don’t touch it. I won’t post a tapestry pattern without a finished product because it takes me a few hours of work on stitch fiddle to make something, but actually crocheting it to show the finished product is more morally right imo. Stitch fiddle and grids shouldn’t be a cash grab, if I see patterns without work attached I’m assuming the poster doesn’t know how to crochet and just wants $$$.

Amigurumi is different, there are so many. I don’t think Ribblr has everyone’s patterns yet so getting the pattern theft prevention on here is hard if the op hasn’t added it here yet, and you can change things like 5-10% and then classify it as yours but I see so many creators fight over releasing patterns at the same time, I think Emma in the moment or made in the moment (forgive me if I deadnamed I just checked the channel name but it might have changed since it was on an old video) covered some recent tea on this and there isn’t a right or wrong it just boils down to creator morals and crediting inspiration (gross, right? Can’t trust everyone) either way. Reporting potential theft is still better than not because if it IS you’re keeping the pattern in the hands of the creator and making it harder for the person who stole to post again. Thank you for pointing this out! We need more people speaking up on theft it’s not taken very seriously here for some odd reason.

I am testing the strawberry pattern rn, and I compared the patterns. They are quite different, and I trust the designer bc I have tested for her before. So your pattern was not stolen or copied in any way.

Ok thx, I believe she was not trying to steal or copy the pattern but just saying they look quite similar
