Honestly though, as long as you explain each abbreviation in the pattern, you could technically use whatever you want lol

But why is it not tc :sob::sob: everything else ends in C. My ocd does not like this lol (neither do my out of control hormones lol)

Yes, but shells can have variations which the designer usually puts in the notes.
Did you know that many designers don’t even crochet their own designs? They hire other people to make them.
By the way, here is the standard abbreviation list in the USA.

UK and US both use tr. UK calls it treble crochet, US calls it triple crochet although they are different from each other

I get they use tr. The fact is I’ve seen tc used a ton and it logically makes sense when all the others end in C. Clearly I’m not the only one who thinks that

I don’t get what variations in shell stitch matter here? If you read my comment, I’m talking about a BODY PART. A turtle has a shell. When I’m talking about the turtles shell, it identifies that as a stitch, not a body part and I can’t tell it not to do that

Yeah I definitely don’t because I figured tc was in the abbreviations so now I guess I’m pulling patterns :upside_down_face:

I kinda want to see a pattern that uses like kitchen tools as abbreviations lol

In the next 3 spoons, mixer, 2mixers in the next 5 spoons, blender

I thought it was only tr! Tho I think I might have seen tc and went along with it…

My brain sees t and automatically sees it as a triple crochet lol, so tr and tc doesn’t matter to me since I’m not a pattern designer, but I do really wanna try making my own pattern!

I’m afraid it really does need to be written as ‘tr’ so that Ribblr can convert the term correctly for anyone not using US stitch terms. I use UK terms (though will happily use either) but you can imagine it gets confusing when both end up mixed into the same pattern because of this issue (e.g. below from a pattern I tested a while back; every ‘tc’ should - in UK terms - be a dtr).

If it’s any consolation it happens all the time & I know tc would be a much more intuitive abbreviation to use! :slightly_smiling_face:

yeah, there are some other stitches like that… for example, bobble stitch is only listed as BBL, not BO. anyway, i agree!

When I first saw this mention of TC my brain thought Tunisian Crochet

I think it’s natural to want to use tc because sc, dc, hdc. You get the point. I wonder why it’s tr?

I tried triple treble crochet and so on… it doesn’t work either
