What can I say? This is one of the cutest and most creative Easter items I’ve ever seen! I would love to try both, as I don’t yet have an Easter plushie and wanted to crochet something for my whole family for Easter, and this is perfect! 
I would use thick chenille yarn and the same colors as you :) (6 mm hook size)

These are precious! I would love to test using worsted weight acrylic yarn in similar colors with a 3.5 mm hook. I would be happy to test the sprout chick , or either one you’d like tested , or both if I have time (sounds like they work up quickly).
