I dont have chunky velvet yarn but could test with the dollar tree chinelle yarn which has a velvet look to it.

After the slip stitch and then u chain 3 do you do a treble in that chain also?

Yes, but it almost doesn’t make a difference if you’re using velvet, but i will update that in my pattern thanks!
