Testers reviewing a designer?

Hey guys! I had an idea and thought I’d post it here and see what y’all think.
What if, when you were a tester, you could review the designer? So maybe you could rate them out of 5 stars in a couple categories like:
-How helpful were they when you had issues?
-Did they listen to your suggestions?
-How active were they in the group chat?
It could be anonymous so testers wouldn’t feel like they had to say that the designer was great even if they werent. It wouldn’t have to be mandatory, and it would help others in the future decide if they wanted to test or not (like you could look and see what past testers said abt them.)
What do you think of this idea? Would you use this feature if it existed?

That is a great idea! Sometimes when I’m testing the pattern will be good, but when I find a error or even when I get picked weeks after I won’t be in the group chat, they won’t respond to me or fix it. I could definitely use this.

I would love it, it would help the designer improve without them knowing it was you, and possibly feeling not good.

I know! Most of the testing i’ve done has been fine, but a couple times my suggestions were ignored and it kinda sucked.

I would. Seen where an error was noted multiple times and the designer wouldn’t do anything. Not sure what the point in having your pattern tested is, if they don’t fix the errors? (Not talking suggestions but literal errors, but other tiny things were fixed and not the error??)

Yeah! In the past i’ve run tester calls for some designs and this would’ve helped so much because most people aren’t brave enough to give you feedback.

I agree! In that case it is completely on the designer and it would help future testers to know.

I know that Ribblr suggest including this information in your journal after testing.
It would be nice to have an anonymous feature for it though.

Well generally designers say journal for pictures and generic things and group chat for feedback and mistakes, but this would be for reviewing the DESIGNER, not the PATTERN.

I understand that, Ribblr suggests putting in the journal if you had a difficult time communicating with the pattern creator as well as a way to review the creator as well.

I’ve had issues a handful of times where Creators refuse to respond or communicate during tests and every time Ribblr has suggested to add the communication issues into the journal that you post.

I agree that a feature reviewing the designing would be good though.

I think if this happened there would need to be a way for designers to respond also. I know there have been glitches where the changes do not save correctly. It says it saves the changes automatically but yet it doesn’t until you exit the pattern sometimes. If you forget to do that you might think you already made the change and it didn’t keep.

I have left reviews in some of my journals that say I frogged the pattern because of no response from the designer.

I think this is a good idea in theory but i dont really like the idea of people rating each other. I think i can also see it kinda being over used as i have had testers get annoyed at me for not responding immediately when i was either busy or asleep due to time differences. I do however think that there should be some method for testers to be able to defend them selfs as somone designers can be really bad but i cant think of a way that cant ve over used. This is all my opinion i dont want to start arguments :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Yes I would totally use this! As a designer I would also like to see what I could improve on as well! Great idea!

as a designer, i think that this could be beneficial

It’s funny you post this, a friend of mine (who also uses ribblr) and I were just discussing this last night! It would be amazing to have something like this for both sides. I have had a few experiences where the pattern maker will leave the group hanging with zero responses for several days to a week. I have also seen testers who aren’t exactly cordial in the chat, or people I have landed in the same group with that I have noticed have a tendency to abort early, so :100: this would be beneficial.

I think it’s also something that could help the mod team as well to keep an eye on anyone who might get consistent negative reviews and they could intervene and perhaps limit their ability to test or make tests, kind of like when someone gets put on mute on Discord. I can see some people being overzealous to rank someone poorly, however I think that if the same person is getting consistently negative reviews across multiple tests and a slew of various people then that is an issue.

Yes i agree with this!
Seems like a great feature but i could definetely see it being abused.

I honestly think this would be abused. Also, rating anyone is going to bring a lot of negativity to the platform whether it is positive or not. It becomes a he said she said situation. The only way I see this working would be if it was yes or no questions like “did the designer respond within 24 hours? If no, did they alert testers that they would be unavailable for a certain time period?” Or “did the designer fix errors that were found?”

As a designer, if you are looking for feedback, you could create a google form with your questions and give it to your testers. A lot of designers use these who sell outside of Ribblr.
