Lately, the testing zone has had some really amazing patterns put up for testing. The issue is that I dont have tons of time or self control.
I think it would be helpful to maybe add a feature you could set yourself that wouldn’t allow you to apply for more tests until you are done one or more of the ones you already have in your testing library. Of course this would be optional to set for yourself or not set, some people are great at finishing tests on time!
But I think it would be a helpful feature to remind people(me!) to finish tests before applying for more. I know many Ribblrs often apply for more than they can handle because of all the amazing designers on here. Just an idea.
An optional feature to block you from applying for test. Like an optional self control feature.
Error code: Sorry you can’t apply looks like you have too many patterns in the testing zone. Try finishing a test before applying again.
Error code: Sorry you have exceeded your time in the community. Trying working on a new or current pattern or pattern in the testing zone before returning to the community.
Yup exactly! It could have a similar error like what you said or “You’ve already been accepted into __ tests. Are you sure you want to apply?” with a yes and no option, so its not completely banning you from applying but is giving you a sort of warning. It could also be a feature you choose to use or not use.
this would be very good when new people are on here, and it could automatically be on here when you join, because a lot of people do my test and then ghost me cuz they don’t know what to do.
Anyway I would love this in the future, ty for suggesting this
Yeah I was also thinking it could help with ghosting! Many people apply for tons of tests, get accepted then ghost. So a limit would stop them from applying for too much!
I personally wouldn’t like this, because I LOVE testing, but if it was optional it would be good. you can also tell yourself: I will not go to the testing zone or smth
but this is a good idea if It helps you, I would just like it to be optional tho lol
Yeah of course it would be optional! I know lots of people are able to finish tests on time, but some people like me have no self control and some people apply to everything then ghost.
As a designer who has had a very rocky past couple of tests with testers ghosting or being unable to finish (for good reason or otherwise), I do belive there ought to be a limit to the number of tests someone can undertake at one time.
There are several reasons for my having this view:
People taking on too many at once that they know they can’t complete on time resultis in constant requests for extensions from designers. We wind up having to accommodate testers.
Just wanting to accumulate as many free patterns as possible.
Not giving the attention a pattern is due because you’re trying to get through them quickly to get to the next pattern
Increased chance of ghosting because you’re ashamed to admit to a designer that you can’t finish on time. This doesn’t affect the tester because there’s no honors system in place for designers to leave feedback on testers, so they can go on to apply for more tests with no one being the wiser, while the designer is out a tester. (Every reasonable designer will be understanding if something comes up and you just have the courtesy to send a message instead of going silent.)
It feels like it’s easy to forget that testing isn’t for the testers, it’s meant to assist the designer.
The goal isn’t to provide the community at large with free patterns, it’s to receive feedback on pattern clarity, to look for errors, etc.
Testing is legitimately a contractual agreement. The designer provides a pattern for free in return for your time and effort. It’s meant to be a give and take.
I believe it’s worth @Ribblr considering this. Also having to have had an account open for a certain amount of minimum time before being able to apply as a tester, to avoid bot pattern fishing.
I completely agree with all those reasons!! Those are some of the reasons I decided to consider this as an idea too! I’ve seen many people just applying to a lot of tests just to keep the pattern for free, or applying to a lot and don’t give feedback at all so they can finish all the patterns they have on time. Its truly unfair to the designers.
Another thing I just came up with Maybe how many tests you can apply for depends on your community level. When you first join maybe one or 2. Then once you turn into a regular you get to test more at a time.
