I might be dumb. But like how does testing work bc like I usually have my friends/fam test my patterns. So like do I have to pay for people online to test my patterns?
not a dumb question at all! there are no dumb questions, just learning opportunities!
here on ribblr, you don’t have to pay to have people test your pattern. you just put the pattern into the ribbuild, then make a tester call. you would do this through your shop by clicking the settings (gear) button and hitting “manage testing.” then you can create a tester call that people can apply for! all completely free
Nope! You don’t have to pay them, just go to your shop, pick the pattern you want tested, make a post with all the REQUIRMENTS and people will sign up! You don’t have to pay them because you are both doing each other a favor! (You get your pattern perfected and they get the pattern early, and for free!)
Yes, but the thing is. My pattern is free, but then the person isn’t really getting like anything out of it? But anyways Tysm for your help!
the tester would still be getting the pattern gifted to them early! on ribblr, there is also something called “karma,” which the tester gets once completing the test and receiving the pattern. the karma system is used by other testers to determine if the tester is trustworthy or not. there’s also a tester completion percentage, which is another incentive for pattern testing. plus, people voluntarily sign up for tests and lots of people don’t really want anything out of it, they just want to help!
I literally was confused bc I’m like broke and I searched up “do pattern testers need to be paid”” it said yes and I was like IM BROKE so how. So I asked you guys for help and y’all were to much more helpful!
Testers are not usually paid, but do receive a copy of the pattern in return for successful completion. On Ribblr there is more control over the process as you are able to remove access to the pattern from problematic testers, whereas other forms of online testing require designers to provide a PDF copy of the pattern which a tester will then have regardless of whether or not they complete the test.
Ribblr also has a system indicating the reliability of testers who have applied. There are karma points and a completion rate. A karma point is received once they are “gifted” the pattern and the completion statistic indicates how many of the tests they were accepted for were actually finished. These are visible to a designer when someone applies to test for them, to assist in deciding if they want to approve that person for testing.
Here is the Ribblr help page about it:
@Leaders I think this can be merged with their previous post!
