Tips for choose the hook size

Heyyy, I’m looking for some help since I’m really bad at selecting hooks to match the yarn im using. All my works end up or very tight or very loose and when I finally found a hook that matched the yarn I was using it was a really bad acrilic yarn and it kinda got stuck on the hook (like it didn’t move smoothly) so please help with any tips you can provide to help me and the other users that may identify with my problem :')

Ok so on each yarn label it says its hook size and if its amigurumi ur doing then size down 1 or 2 from what it says and if just crochet crochet then basically anything sized up or the actual size

apparently if you match the hook size with the yarn thickness, it works

Whatever the label says always works for me, I size down 2mm when doing amigurumi though.

I normally go down a hook size or half a hook size then what the label says. But on youtube i heard some one say you could measure the width of the yarn and use that hook. Both of thoose helped me:smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
