Tips for Cotton Yarn

Anyone have any tips for crocheting with cotton yarn? It feels like so much work to crochet it!!! It’s not splitting, so that’s not a problem.

I don’t know what issue you are having, but I find that cotton tends to dry my hands more because it absorbs the oils from my skin.
So I find that it will slip more if I don’t moisturize more. If you are having that problem you may find it takes more effort to maintain tension. And well, the solution was in the story.

Well, it’s not slipping, it’s dragging even though my tension is loose and I’m using a K//6.5 mm hook.

Well, there is certainly no reason for cotton yarn to stick on metal. What is the actual yarn? Are you using original skein or did you cake it? Are you center pull or outside pull? And is it possible your holding it too tight?

It’s Lion Brand Comfy Cotton 50/50 acrylic cotton. Center pull cake.

sometimes a center pull cake can either untwist or over twist itself if you center pull from a cake…it depends on a lot of factors that I don’t quite understand but it can happen. That is the only factor so far that could explain it.

Now that you mention twist—-

Take a look at the yarn

That’s the culprit. :face_with_monocle:

It has yarn over yarn in a spiral.

I’m betting that if you change to pulling from the outside, it might stop
