Tips for crochet markets

I’m a teen who wants to start to sell crochet plushies at farmers markets or craft sales. I am open for any tips to help me start - setup (and where to get crates/or other ways to display) items that sell well, pricing, etc. Thank you!!

I’ve been doing markets for longer than I could crochet! I absolutely love them. Here are tricks i’ve picked up and tips I have:

  • Talk to people. Don’t be pushy though. They are going to ask the price NO MATTER WHAT, even if there are signs, tags, and pretty much everything that obviously says the price, they will still ask. :sob:
  • Use displays, don’t just lay stuff on your table. Shelfs, baskets (great for small lower priced stuff, I usually have a $5 bucket) or displays to hang things such as keychains, jewelery, small items.
  • Focus on making small things. People want to support you and buy your things, so make some things that they can buy for very cheap.
  • Lastly, people will ask about safety eyes. I had an idea actually this morning that will help you explain how they work. I am going to crochet a small square and put a safety eye in so that people can see how the back works. It is not safe for babies, make sure you tell people that.
That’s all for now, hopefully that was helpful.

Some markets will be a bust. Some will be great. Depends on the amount of foot traffic and the kind of people that show up. So if it’s not always great, try different events at different locations. It can take some trial and error to find your target audience. But as long as you have good quality products, you should be able to find your customers. Good luck!

I haven’t done a market yet but I think going to the dollar store for buckets and other ways to display would be your cheapest option for those things!
