tips for lining a crochet bag?

heya folks! so I’m finally getting around to lining a bag i made a couple months ago. only problem is i know next to nothing about sewing and don’t own a machine. i can only really do things like attach amigurumi parts or sew a button, so I’d really appreciate any advice y’all may have. my plan is to get some red fat quarters (i think that’s what they’re called anyway) to line it with, and maybe a zipper if i can find one big enough. here’s the bag in question. im not sure if it matters, but it was made with half-double crochets. thanks for the help!

Check out YouTube! There’s a lot of good tips there

That looks so coooool!!! Love it!! You can hot glue, but idk if you like that on your yarn. Also Velcro, like command strips that are sticky, on both the bag and the fabric to get it to stay in.

Definitely second the YouTube recommendation, but also to practice the stitches on a scrap piece of fabric before lining the bag! That way you can be sure of your skills and make the mistakes on something that doesn’t matter rather than on this beautiful bag!

Maybe this website will help?

first off - LOVE the bag. i would use it daily, it’s gorgeous.
second - when i started doing my bags, i would youtube search “crochet hand sew lining” and watch a few people do it before deciding how to do my own. i second the idea of trying out some stitches on test fabric ahead of time.

if this is acrylic yarn, i would recommend look into lining your strap for durability.

for closures - i’m less useful. i often get creative with metal or magnetic snaps. sometimes i just do a crochet chain loop over a button. zippers are my next challenge.

I just make a super tight chain with hdc or I make the strap on this pattern.
I also have made this Thermal strap pattern before, but it’s even thicker, uses a lot of yarn, and doesn’t have as much flexibility so I don’t make it much.
I don’t line straps because it falls apart much easier. I just use tight tension, and sometimes an even smaller hook than usual so there is less wiggle room.
I have made only about 3 purses before, but this works for me. The star pattern is my favorite because it looks nicer, and you make it the length you want it first before making the pattern. I just tightly sew my straps in with thread instead of yarn so it’s more hidden

ah well it’s a bit late for me to do that

I also don’t know much about lining because I don’t have a sewing machine so I would have to hand sew everything, and it just doesn’t seem worth it, but it should be fine if it doesn’t have big holes and you don’t plan on putting really small things inside

In the pictures, I don’t see any gaps or holes, so I think your bag should be perfectly fine.

im mostly worries about stretching, and the yarn carried over from color changes, i would hate for my keys to go in and then get tangled in them

You also can search for Bag liners for totes or crochet bags on Amazon for the easy way out. You just have to measure your bag and check out the proportions before ordering.

that’s such a great idea

You can also look up fabric zipper pouches if you want it to be more bag like

This was the link I looked for small bags with zippers, but you can easily find bigger ones

Good luck! You should definitely be careful what fabric you use then, because certain types fray easy. I had to remake a bag completely because it destroyed itself. This before I started crochet

sorry! bit late. i usually just cut a bit of cotton up, fold it double, and sew it on the strap. you could also cut a strap off of a reusable bag. (though that was already suggested)

i usually reinforce mine to stop them from stretching out. ^^

This is how I lined my backpack, I just had to buy a special cutting tool to make the holes and then you can line it entirely with crochet and no sewing because sewing is the bane of my existence
