I am learning how to sew plushies (very slowly) and I would like to advance my learning to my sewing machine eventually, as I am very slow at machine sewing. With that in mind, I have a couple of questions.
- What tips and tricks can you share for sewing plushies on a machine? I am particularly nervous about sewing curves, as I have never done that before.
- Where do you get thread in lots of colors for your sewing machine? I have a set for handsewing with a dozen or so small colors, but I don’t know how to get lots of colors for my sewing machine at a reasonable price. I have only ever bought single spools of thread before.
- Is there anything else I should know before I start?
Thank you!

Congratulations on how to sew!
Here are my tips and tricks:
One, make the outline a bit bigger than the actual finish plushie
Two, go slowly around the corners / edges
Three, hand sew intricate details, do not use machine sewing
Four, make sure to plan everything out
For getting thread, I would look on Amazon. Or you could go to local craft stores or just inherit some from grandparents, Mom’s, or other people.
If you have any other questions, feel free to DM me!!!
Good luck!!

I do sewing all the time and my tips are
- Find easy patterns with big curves than work your way up to the harder patterns
- I use Güterman thread, but I get mine really cheap because I’m an Aussie and Güterman thread is just cheap here, but Amazon probably does have some cheap, good quality thread.
- Use good patterns. I’ve only every used Cholyknights patterns because they are gorgeous, easy and most are free
I’ve been sewing about two and half years and I still often have projects with horrible symmetry, so make sure you line up your corners carefully
