Tips for working with glow-in-the-dark fuzzy yarn

Hey,
I have some green glow-in-the-dark yarn I’d like to use but whenever I make a magic ring or slip knot it doesn’t slide at all or pieces of the fuzz just pull off. I thought about adding a regular yarn with it but nothing i have goes with it. I do have glow-in-the-dark white that isn’t fuzzy but thought I’d ask for tips here first before I go digging

Here’s a great tutorial using acrylic yarn for the ring:

if you pull the ring tight enough with the correct hook size, you shouldn’t be able to see the acrylic yarn.
hope this helps!!

it is possible it just doesn’t like me. I tried to show my daughter what i was talking about and it worked fine until i went to pull my ring and then she discouraged me by noticing how difficult it was to see the stitches. I’ve mainly worked with acrylic. Could i just have a bad skein? does that happen with yarn? i’ve only been crocheting since May of last year so i know theres still so much to learn about including tips and how tos.
