I decided on a whim to give it a shot last night since I had some needles on hand! The blue is my 1st attempt and yellow is 2nd. I know it’s kinda wonky but does it look like I’m on the right track? I did relax my tension ( I think lol) on the 2nd one, but I don’t even know if you want to have looser tension or not. Any tips, tricks or youtuber recommendations for knitting would be much appreciated!
Those look great! My daughter and I want to learn to knit too! I am hoping to get some needles soon so we can watch some tutorials. :>
Both look amazing! Great luck along your knitting journey!
Ahh thanks! It doesn’t feel as foreign to learn as crocheting did so far! I hope you’re able to get those needles soon and give it a go yourselves! It’s fun to use yarn in a new way!
Thank you so much! I’m enjoying it so far!
You are off to a great start. Your stitches are neat and even, so your tension is good. You can either cast on about 20 stitches and knit away until you have a scarf, or you can add a new skill by learning the purl stitch…
Thank you, that’s so helpful to know! What’s the next stitch you would recommend I learn after the purl stitch?
In knitting there are only the 2 stitches, knit and purl. It is how you use those 2 stitches that makes all the magic happen. The basic fabric is Garter stitch, where you knit every stitch on every row. The next thing to learn is Stockinette, which is where you knit every row on the right side, and then purl every row on wrong side. Once you know those you can combine knit and purl for ribbing, and there’s no end to what you can learn from there!
Oh, I see! That’s fascinating! Thank you so much for your help, I have a better idea of how this works now and I think I’ll be able to try patterns sooner than I expected. I’m excited!
If these are first attempts, you’re doing a great job! Have you kept working at it? How are you progressing?
Thank you!! I have set it aside for a bit, but will be getting back to it soon!
