Yes, a 10 pound (4.53kg) yarn ball, and that is a standard size tennis ball next to it.
It’s 45 inches/3 ft 9in (114 cm) around.
I’ve had this for probably ten - fifteen years now, and for the last three years it’s been inside the bin it’s sitting on. It was sitting in the top cubby of one of the shelves in my craft room, but I thought that would be a hazard because if I accidentally bumped into the shelf the yarn ball could roll off and fall on my head.
It is fun having a massive yarn ball, but the problems are it does take up a lot of space, and if it’s on the floor all it does is get rolled around and collect dust/hair. Because it’s in the bin, I can’t see it anyway, and it would be nice to have the bin to store supplies for my craft room.
So I’m going to be turning it into a sampler blanket. That way, I can free up the bin, I’ll have a decorative blanket, and it will give me something to do while I listen to Youtube videos.

Life got really busy and I wasn’t able to make much progress.
I’m going with smaller squares so I can have a large variety, and if I like some of the patterns I can repeat blocks. I’m also thinking of going with a pattern of solid block, “lacey” block, repeat. I’m also trying to find stitch patterns that are simple to remember. I got some crochet stitch books from the library and some of them are 7 row repeats. Very pretty, but not quite what I’m looking for!
I can’t quite remember the names of the stitches I used. I think crunch and griddle are two of them. The bottom middle one, I have no idea what the name of that one is. I was following a pattern (the book called it tiny textures) and accidentally did it wrong (instead of repeating row 2 and 3, I misread the pattern and kept repeating row 2). I think it was something like slip stitch (US) and ch 1 skip stitch. When I looked it up, it said it was the moss stitch, but it doesn’t look like a moss stitch.
Hopefully I’ll be able to post an update much sooner than I did with this one!
