user tagging guidelines

There is no algorithm for the feed. Everyone sees what they do not filter out. If you are having a personal promotion for likes and follows, there is no need to make tagging a user one of the conditions. Tagging users that did not want to be part of your promotion forces them to see what they already filtered out.
@Ribblr , can we either issue a guideline for these situations or have tagging also muted on promotional posts from spaces/tags/users that we have also muted?

Yes, this!

maybe a setting of “who can tag me?” = “only those I follow”

Thankfully this hasn’t been an issue for me, but I can definitely see how this can be an issue, I hope Ribblr can find a way to work this out/clarification depending how they go about it whether it’s with guidelines or adding new settings for it, etc

I ignore any posts that require me to tag anyone, follow them elsewhere online or provide my username on any other site

there really is no reason to tag people in ribblr unless you are mentioning them (which is what the actual feature is named) or alerting them. Tagging in order to win something or to participate in something within ribblr is wholly unnecessary.

You mean those “to apply to test tag 3 friends” things? Those should be bannable everywhere it’s just anxattemp to abuse algos and get free advertising. :unamused: I block people that do that on sites that allow blocking.

Tag me if you wanna talk to me all else is spam.

Not just that… There are “tag people for extra entries to my giveaway” the giveaway feature doesn’t work that way. In ribblr, you can mute tags and spaces so you don’t have to see stuff like giveaway , if someone tags you, it defeats the purpose of the tag filters, it does not in fact give you an advantage in the giveaway feature, and it annoys the people that got tagged because they didn’t want to participate.

Lol I’ve never searched giveaway before. It’s full of migrating algo tricks, tag friends, like this post, share - some kind of post about there is no Algo here would probably help. But unless it’s like some other forums I’ve joined where your first visit pops up that info and has you agree you read it, it’ll go mostly ignored anyway. :woman_shrugging:t2:

I say it all the time, this post starts with it. Just life the karma is pointless and the shop followers are just the people that bookmarked you to make you easier to find… There is no algorithm

The shop favorite I’ve since found has use (but it might be a toggle setting somewhere) I get alerts to new listings in shops I favorite, so I now treat it completely different. I used to just fav whatever cause it would make someone feel nice so whatever, but now I’m picky. :joy: I can see why people would want to amass shop favs because of it.

Yeah, it’s like joining the mailing list. You get notifications, and you can use that as a filter when you search… What it does not do is put your patterns higher up in a search

I haven’t had issues with this, but I do think tagging for giveaways/testing is unnecessary as a whole. I only end up tagging people if I’m certain I want to join, but I see no reason for it, especially because for the people that are more well known in the community, end up getting tagged more. I feel like it’s unnecessary, because those well known tagged people end up getting many, many notifications and pop-ups in their feed. It’s also an issue for people who don’t even want to participate in the post, so it might just be annoying to them. This wasn’t meant to offend or come at anyone, just saying my opinions/thoughts. :woman_shrugging::sparkles:

It is annoying since giveaways have a tag giveaway and you can choose to ignore all posts tagged with giveaway, then someone mentions you (the@ username) and there you are, still seeing giveaway against your will. The giveaway feature in your shop is a single button that will randomly pick a follower. It has nothing to do with mentioning other users, there are no extra entries. And the follower count does not boost your shop because there is no algorithm. So it’s even more annoying because nothing comes of it.

Thanks for your feedback! We will take a look into it.

Its such a peculiar system. Similarly if you mute a creator for good reason, that doesn’t matter, ribblr will still push their patterns to you. A proper block feature might help. Like block the topic and you get nothing from it at all, block a designer and you get nothing from them. I think mute being a watered down version of blocking opens the doors to these things still being shown.
I know when people do giveaways, its because they want to grow their audience and tagging friends can be a good way to share around but as you say, with no algo, there’s really no point on ribblr, short of assuming people use ribblr but only check posts their friends tag them in .

a proper , (and mutual) blocking system would solve a lot of problems…

Like, this post here. The same people are getting tagged over and over and over and over again. Its a silly system that not only messes with the feed, it blows up your notifs.

The same few people are getting tagged so hard I’d almost just assume that whole thread is a circle of friends. If it’s not that’s really weird and almost like they’re copy pasting from each other to not bother their friends.

Either way, even if there was an algorithm it defeats the purpose of the tag x people when the same 10 people are tagged relentlessly.:joy:
