Washing wool

I have very complicated relationship with 100% wool

I washed those socks. In the machine. Welp, lesson learned

If you want wool that can be washed, you have to look for “superwash” on the label
Alternately, you can use the default of 30% shrinkage and do math to size up your pattern to allow for felting
Or you can do a swatch and felt it then do math to get the exact shrinkage for your yarn and size to match… But it’s usually 30%

Great advice, as always!

The thing is I made a swatch and washed it and it didn’t felt. I guess I washed the swatch and socks at different temperatures. Swatch was cold water wash, socks at least 30 :frowning: thank you for the reminder about superwash yarn. I’ve got a pair of superwash yarn socks they stand through mahine washing just fine
