Wearables?

Hey everyone!
I’ve been wanting to make some wearables recently, maybe a patchwork sweater or something. But either way, for those of you who have made some wearables before, or just have advice, I would appreciate that!

What yarn should I use (comfortable, not itchy, not too think but not too thin, etc.)?
Any tips/do’s and don’t’s?

I’d appreciate any advice! Thanks!

I’ve never made any wearables because I don’t think I have the attention span lol but maybe acrylic yarn?

I’m currently working on my first wearable! (Other the hats and baby boots lol) so I don’t have any good advice at the moment

Depending on what you make I think cotton would be good!

I used Anna & Clara’s 100% Cotton 8/4 by Søstrene Grene to make this nice cardigan while I was in the UK. I loved working with this yarn and the result is so soft. Unluckily I can’t find this brand back home, I want to try Friends Cotton 8/4 by hobbii as it’s the most similar I’ve been able to find here, but I still haven’t worked with it.

I always make my sweaters too short, so definitely air on the long side. I rely on blocking too much lol

To crochet this other cardigan I used New Cancun (50% cotton 50% acrylic) by Katia, I also like it, but the result is not as soft as the 100% cotton.

Caron simply soft yarn is what I use for scarves. It’s pretty soft and has a just right thickness to it

Ooh, this is my personal preference but I always crochet my pieces together, I think a lot of people would disagree because it does make it a bit bulkier but I think it’s worth it because it’s more secure than sewing, or maybe i’m just bad at sewing :person_shrugging: But if your using thin yarn it wont make a big difference.

Other than that, I really like to use 100% cotton yarn not only because it’s better for your skin but I think its fresh, especially for summer. Even in winter, you just need to layer it. But for winter, definitely something warmer like an acrylic blend, I like wool-ease thick and quick but since its so bulky sometimes I get crocheters block lol.

And lastly, don’t forget to block it, especially if your using acrylic!

Anyway, good luck with your wearable! I hope it turns out good!

Here for my bell bottom pants, I used cotton worsted 4. Very soft and comfy. For my cropped top, I used cotton medium size 3. I may suggest Lion’s Brand yarns. They are the best and high quality.

I was thinking about that but I feel like it might get a little scratchy. But maybe not, honestly I have no idea

Ooo good luck! I hope it goes well!

Thank you!!

This is super helpful, thank you so much!

Of course!

So for yarn i recommend you to use Merino wool and Cotton and Caron 1lbs, but i have not made any finished wearables except for fingerless gloves (i recommend)

my only tips: it’s not as hard or intimidating as it looks before you get started! and…start with a beginner wearable design! just so you can get the hang of it…and plus, when you finish it, you’ll get the biggest confidence boost!

i use sport weight for mine…but i designed one of them, the other i scaled up the pattern so i could get it to the right size since i was using a smaller yarn than what the pattern asked for.

the one i designed is designed in a way that you can use literally any yarn (my friend tested it with several sizes cause she was curious). it’s a shrug tho which isn’t what you’re looking for based on what you’ve described!

i have some free patterns saved i can share if you’d like!
