hello everyone! i have been starting to sell ear warmers recently and someone ordered a pair with stripes. normally this wouldn’t be a problem, but im not sure how to weave in the ends. i want to do it as i work, but so far when i do it, you can see the other color peek through and it looks rather messy. is there a way to weave in the ends to prevent this? to understand better, im doing hdc ribbing, which is done in BLO. i would appreciate any advice you may have. thank you!
You could just try and only weave it on on that stripe with the same color? or try and just weave in a little bit and cut the rest off
i tried the latter, but the end pops out if the ribbing is stretched
hmm let me go and do some research one sec
Can you colour change then just leave it attached and pick it back up when the stripes switch back to that colour?
that’s how i normally color change, but would that effect the stretchiness of the ear warmers?
It depends how you do it and how much slack you leave. Say your colour band is 3 green then 3 red then 3 green. You add the red, carry green for one stitch to secure. Then the next red row carry again just for one stitch to raise it to the next level etc. I dunno, might work.
what do you mean by carry the stitch? I’ve seen it mentioned before but im not sure i know what it means
Now im wondering how you weave your ends lol. You can carry the other colour behind the row youre currently doing by just placing behind but next to rhe stitch your going through, so it gets caught up and carried along. Depending on how stretching your yarn is sometimes you can see a glimpse , which is what i thought your problem was
i normally make amigurumi so im not used to weaving in the ends, especially this much. i have done some color work, but i just stretch the yarn across the “wrong side” and pick it up when i need it again, so something like this is completely foreign to me
Yeah i usually do amigurumi too, but you havent done colour changes until you’ve tried to make an earth ball. for bags and things when there is an end to weave i use a yarn needle, and turn it inside out and thread it through the backs of the stitches on the other rows. But I think if i had loads then id carry for 6 stitches (enough to secure it) then cut. By carry, i mean stretch it along the row you’re doing but on the wrong side as you say and crochet over it.
ah okay, will it still show through when you carry it? that’s one thing that i always struggle with lol. and yes i don’t do many color changes in amigurumi either lol
Sometimes. If you make sure its behind the row and crochet quite tightly then usually not. But if it does, then try what i suggested earlier and just carry it one stitch each time you pass it on the next row to lift it up the rows until its needed again.
Unrelated question, do you know why your icon has a little cowboy hat and mine has a little graduate cap?
ah that would be because im a regular, and you’re a member. i think the cowboy hat is to say it’s not my first rodeo. I’ll try to carry the stitch on my next attempt, i think I’ll scrap this one
Experiment, unless you cut it you can always frog and redo.
I stopped using the app for a long time, i guess thats why im just member. Fell into my kindle and didn’t crochet for a while.
Looking over the convo, id say look up vids for the carry over method. Mostly used in tapestry crochet
I just realised there’s a photo in this thread im such an idiot. Im busy today but if i get a chance ill do a video of what i was talking about.
You could try making a couple of knots where the color change happens, then just cut the ends.
I have used it on my granny square blankets and it works (also no complaints from clients that it’s coming apart)
