What hook size??? (I’m so bad at this)

Hey guyssss :3
I just got some bernat baby blanket yarn for the first time (yay!)
And well I have no idea what hook size to use :(
So what do you use for it? It says 8mm but I feel like it’s too big. I’m mostly want to make amigarumi with it, so should I size down???
My yarn :sparkles::sparkles::sparkles:

Sorry for the late post (well for me at least)
Also @Mulberry25 I think you use bernat baby blanket yarn so what hook size do u use?? (Correct me if I’m wrong tho)

Size down to a G or H whatever size it takes to keep stitches tight.

I’d use a 6mm with that
If you’re still struggling make a test ball with the hooks you think would work it’s like a swatch but amigurumi

Yes, size down. I find the hook size given to you is always to big for amigurumi, probably because it wasn’t made for amigurumi.

I like using a 6.0mm hook with that yarn :heart_hands:t2::sparkles:

Maybe a 5mm? I use a 5.5 for the regular bernat so I think that may be your best option

I like to use 5 mm but 6 mm will also work

I always use a 6mm hook when I’m working with Bernat blanket!

Best advice is probably that you should do swatch tests until youre comfortable with your style.

If it’s for amigurumi make a couple simple small balls with different hook sizes. It’s general practice to size down with amigurumi to avoid holes, but how much depends on yarn type and your personal stitch tension.

I use 5.5 mm or 6 mm

We could mention a million different hook sizes. But you have to do several swatches with different hook sizes until it looks right. With a garment you are looking for the right drape, you don’t want it too bunchy or too loose and holey.

Everyone’s tension is different. Some of us crochet very tightly and some of us crochet more loosely.

Yeah I’d say 6 - 6.5, if you want it really tight you could go 5 - 5.5

I personally use a 4.5-5.mm hook for Bernat blanket!

I usually use my 5.5mm, but ohhh crocheting with baby bernet for me is such a pain

I use a 5 mm and the stitches look ok

I would use either a 5.5 or a 6.0 - those are my go tos for super bulky yarn.
