What stitch will work best for a tank top?

I want to make a tank top for the summer, but I’d like to make my own pattern for it. I have a general idea of how I’m going to put it together. I’m just not sure which stitch would work best. I don’t want a large mesh, hopefully something I can wear without a cami underneath it.
So tell me my experts, what are the best stitches for a piece of clothing like that?

I find dc, sc or other tighter sts work best. As I don’t like wearing camisoles underneath either. Alternating sc and dc can give it a nice texture too.

Exactly what I was gonna say. I call it the lemonpeel stitch. Many other names, but dc, sc, alternating. Beautiful texture.

Oh I love the lemon peel stitch! Why didn’t I think of that? 🫶🏼:sparkles:

Moss stitch also can have a nice drape and some stretch to it

That list of stitches was fun to look through. I’ve tried most. Very informative.
