Hello!
I’m using this yarn for a pattern and struggling to identify its weight/type besides describing it like “thin chenille”. I really want to identify it accurately so others can use similar yarn in their locations
It’s bella baby nippers in Australia from Spotlight stores, pic below. They have hook size and the gauge listed, is that generally enough information?

Generally, needle or hook size and a gauge are enough for people to find a substitute. I would guess that it is a medium / worsted weight yarn. This chart might help:

From my own experience using it, I always size my hook down to a 4 or 3.5mm when I’m making plushies (depending on the tension) as the yarn has less bulk than it looks to have. Texturally, I’d call it closer to a velvet/chenille hybrid, than straight chenille. It’s less fluffy, if that makes sense? It’s closest to Premier Retro Velvet yarn, than anything else I’ve used. The Nippers is a little less densely packed than the Retro Velvet, but has slightly longer fibres.

This website should be helpful. In order to tell the weight, you count the number of wraps per inch. Check this out.
