Instead of making a chain and then working your way back up the chain with sc, there’s a stitch that creates the chain and first row of sc at the same time - I have several patterns to upload that include this method, but I have no idea what it’s called.

ok so this stitch is called FSC which is foundation single crochet or foundation stitch in crocheting! sometimes its called chainless foundation sc so you dont need to start with long chain and the sc at the same time!!!

And for future reference, and of the bigger ones are the same style aka “foundation half double crochet” or “foundation double crochet” i have yet to see treble/triple but i assume it could be done using the same method.

From a bit of research, I think most people refer to the stitch you described as the Long Tail Foundation Chain.

I wouldn’t have thought to look up instructions for the fsc - that’s definitely different from what I’m doing.
