I started crocheting when I was 11 (wow, 18 years ago! :eyes:), though of course there were huge gaps of years when I didn’t crochet at all. I started designing last year, but also had a big ā€˜gave-birth’ gap.

In 2024-2025 I tried crocheting and failed for a month so I put it aside for two years then found it again tried my hardest and I could crochet (this was 8 months ago and I haven’t made a pattern yet)

I started to crochet about 4-5 years ago. But I’ve only known how to actually read a crochet pattern for a few months now.

I learnt to crochet on YouTube, following all the beginner tutorials I could find. Then i started with following along with the step by step tutorials on how to make easy beginner projects.

That went on for years but I STILL had NO idea at all how to read a crochet pattern.

Then I found Ribblr s few months ago and it seemed like a great place to learn to read patterns.

Of course it was, and so much more.

Where I am now, I feel like I’m just basically starting to really get how patterns work. But I definitely don’t feel like enough of an expert on them to try to write one

At least not yet. I can imagine sweaters in my mind, but the pattern writing thing is still beyond me atm.

Same here. It took me 3 tries to learn to crochet. I was not getting it the first 2 times and gave up. For some reason, the third time it all clicked and started to work for me

Can’t live without crochet now.

Not that we have to ever write patterns. I may one day, I may not. If the time comes and I feel inspired to I might. If not, then not.

A good first pattern idea is something simple, like a stress ball or something (that’s what I did) or like a really easy character, maybe a blob or something, and if you need any tips on reading or writing patterns, you can always ask me! :)

I started crocheting when I was 11 or so, but then I stopped for multiple years until I picked it back up last year at the start of school. I’ve been actively crocheting since, and designing patterns for just as long, though not always writing them down but rather committing them to memory.

I started crocheting as a child, almost 50 years ago! I first started selling my crochet patterns about 20 years ago, when I was living in the USA. I’ve since moved back to the Czech Republic. Later, I took a break from designing patterns and focused on selling my finished crochet creations instead. And now, after all these years, I’m just getting back into designing and selling my patterns again!

Wishing you all a lovely Sunday!

You’re so lucky to have learnt as a child and had so many tears to enjoy it. I was around 65 when I learnt it, but I just love it so much now.

I started crocheting in 2014 and I had a very difficult time reading patterns ( for instance the elephant I was trying to crochet that looks like a cat pig, lol) so after that I started making my own patterns but not knowing the terminology I never wrote down how to remake the pattern. Not long after that I started to be able to read patterns and just did that for a while and last year and this year I created my own patterns. One I hope to publish soon after I’m done with a few things I’m testing

I started crocheting when my friend told me about it! I thought my mom would never buy me the stuff needed to crochet since it sooo expensive but surprisingly she agreed! And so i learned crochet using YouTube videos along with my friend!!

A loooong time ago sometime in the Stone Age!! Ha ha JK:laughing:

But yes I started when I was 13. I remember seeing this lady on a subway crocheting and her hands were going a million miles a minute and I was mesmerized! Fast forward my family moved to Germany where I met a Grandma in a park bench that was crocheting for a grandchild and as I was watching her she asked me if I wanted to learn, she had an extra set of hooks and yarn and she taught me right there!

It took me a long time to take that first step and design about 2 years ago.
