I have similar story of when I started crocheting. Before my grandma passed in Jan of 2021 she tried to teach me crochet, I think around 2016 or 2017 for some reason my brain couldnāt comprehend anything but the chain work lol

That is so cute omg my great grandma crochets oven cloths (btw she turned NINETYSEVEN this year) and gifts it to the whole town

I started a few years back. I had been desperate to crochet but I had no idea how. I tried so many videos but they didnāt work.
Then I found a tutorial on how to make an octopus by CreatOsaur. Thatās when I started. Then I guess I just figured out how to read patterns and here I am. A beginner whoās bad at crochet but I can do it.

My mom and gma had tried to teach me when I was like 8 but I just couldnāt seem to get the hang of it so I lost interest but I saw a woobles kit in an Amazon magazine in 2024 and asked for one for Christmas that year and it clicked right away that time so Iāve been crocheting ever since:3
With designing Iāve been freehanding and writing down what Iāve made since about 3months after I started crocheting but when I found ribblr I decided to share some of my patterns and that started about 3-4months ago:)

I started crocheting when I was eight so in 2022. I donāt design patterns I just freehand stuff if I canāt find a pattern but donāt write it down cause Iām to lazy

In 2024-2025 I tried crocheting and failed for a month so I put it aside for two years then found it again tried my hardest and I could crochet (this was 8 months ago and I havenāt made a pattern yet)

I started to crochet about 4-5 years ago. But Iāve only known how to actually read a crochet pattern for a few months now.
I learnt to crochet on YouTube, following all the beginner tutorials I could find. Then i started with following along with the step by step tutorials on how to make easy beginner projects.
That went on for years but I STILL had NO idea at all how to read a crochet pattern.
Then I found Ribblr s few months ago and it seemed like a great place to learn to read patterns.

A good first pattern idea is something simple, like a stress ball or something (thatās what I did) or like a really easy character, maybe a blob or something, and if you need any tips on reading or writing patterns, you can always ask me! :)

I started crocheting when I was 11 or so, but then I stopped for multiple years until I picked it back up last year at the start of school. Iāve been actively crocheting since, and designing patterns for just as long, though not always writing them down but rather committing them to memory.

I started crocheting as a child, almost 50 years ago! I first started selling my crochet patterns about 20 years ago, when I was living in the USA. Iāve since moved back to the Czech Republic. Later, I took a break from designing patterns and focused on selling my finished crochet creations instead. And now, after all these years, Iām just getting back into designing and selling my patterns again!

I started crocheting in 2014 and I had a very difficult time reading patterns ( for instance the elephant I was trying to crochet that looks like a cat pig, lol) so after that I started making my own patterns but not knowing the terminology I never wrote down how to remake the pattern. Not long after that I started to be able to read patterns and just did that for a while and last year and this year I created my own patterns. One I hope to publish soon after Iām done with a few things Iām testinā¦

I started crocheting when my friend told me about it! I thought my mom would never buy me the stuff needed to crochet since it sooo expensive but surprisingly she agreed! And so i learned crochet using YouTube videos along with my friend!!

I started designing patternsā¦last year. I made myself a loaf cat pattern when I was kinda starting to learn how to crochet. I was having difficulty with other loaf cat patterns becuase of the ears (sounds ridiculous but yeah) so I just made my own!

I startedd around 2023 i think? I needed something to do while stuck at home from a chronic health issue, and my mum suggested I look up some crochet tutorial and gave me her old hooks and yarn. For me, it was love at first stitch! Iāve been working on at least one project at all times ever since. I havenāt gotten around to designing anything just yet, but Iām hoping to do so next year!

I think I started out sometime in 2022 but I only knew the slip stitch. SO imagine just making everything from ugly hats for barbies and some pink raggedy thing that was supposed to be a penguin, they were all made with slip stitches. Then in December of 2024 I was given a wobbles kit and finally learned how to do actual stitches a make plushies. I then started designing sometime in march 2025!

Funny storyā¦ I started about a year ago, made four small projects, and gave upā¦ I knew my basic stitches, but was just not motivated enough to start for real. 3 months ago, I went to my grand-motherās and she does a lot of crochet, so I look at her stash and see some chenille yarn! I started crocheting, and I was so into using this specific chenille yarn, that she brought me to Micheals and I bought about 4 yarn ballsā¦ Then I started spamming crochet, and itās where I am now!!! . I ended up giving up on it. Fast forward to Jan of this year my son got a Wooble for his birthday and asked me if I could make it for him so I decided to try. Idk why I thought crocheting was difficult lol, it was so easy and I enjoyed it. I decided then and there that I was going to continue crocheting. I also somehow feel closer to my grandma and feel like she would be happy to know that I picked up the craft.
