WIP: Crocheted Juice Carton Bag Charms

A new crochet project is in progress: Juice Carton Bag Charms! :beverage_box: 2 more colours will be made soon.

If I were to test them as a pattern, I think this will be good for beginners, because there are not very many pieces to sew on. But then, there’s that screentone gradient on the cartons, in which people need to change yarn colours a lot. However, the yarn colour change pattern isn’t as dramatic as it looks.

As for the straw…sure. I could use the i-cord method, but…no. I should just double/single crochet them. Using the i-cord method would probably increase the pattern’s difficulty. And since I’m planning to release them as a free pattern, I should try to make it as simple as possible.

Uh…do you know what? I’ve changed my mind. I’ve decided to give those cartons a solid colour. I’ve a feeling that gradient might put off some beginners, since changing yarn colours a lot can be a hassle.

I actually really love the gradient! I’m still sort of a beginner myself but it looks super cute and wouldn’t be too hard!

It’s not too tricky if you’re carrying the other yarn while not using it, I think the colour changes add visual interest. As someone who has done i-cord before though, that is definitely a bit much for beginners. It would also probably be a bit floppier than if you made the straw out of single crochets.

I can’t make up my mind. People have encouraged me to use the gradient, because it looks visually appealing, and I agree!

It might look a bit plain without it

Ooh i know! You could have the basic version, and another pattern for the gradient mod! Or a 2 in 1 pattern, where people could choose what they want!
I love the gradient though, even though it may not be the easiest beginner project, maybe they can learn with this pattern?

Thanks for the advice! I’ve done a bit of research and I have seen free crochet pattern bundles.
