Wooble Hot Takes?

I’ll admit that I have never made one before, I’ve felt their t-shirt yarn and it didn’t really seem all that impressive save for how visible the stitches would be. I have seen plenty of their designs, but I don’t personally feel like a set is worth $45.00+. That being said… their crochet hooks are adorable! I’m the biggest Sanrio stan and their new Sanrio line has me wanting to purchase one just for the hooks. I also think they have some of the best beginner tutorials online, which helped me so much when I was first getting started and I can’t appreciate that free resource enough!

Anyone else have any opinions or thoughts on Wooble’s? Has anyone ever made something from one of their sets? Are they worth the price point? Am I missing something?

And I mean no hate by any of this, it really honestly is mostly a price thing for me. If they were maybe like $20 or something I’d totally buy them, even if it was just for the hooks because I feel so targeted lol first Sanrio then I see they have Minecraft, LOTR, Pusheen… the list keeps growing.

Wooble kits are the only way I ever learned crochet. My Mom tried for years to teach me. I tried other videos and tutorials; nothing worked. Woobles clicked. I needed the kit as the item was already started, I could jump right in and stitch. With the videos, tiny step by tiny step. I built my confidence and within a day or two had a completed project. From this perspective, they are worth it for some beginners.

Would I buy them now? Probably not, too expensive. But, I need to unsubscribe to their emails and texts because I get tempted almost every time a new release is dropped. They are cute! I really wish they sold some of the hooks separately but they know how to make money.

That’s honestly what I had kind of figured, and what I have heard else where.

I’ve seen the hooks sold on Mercari a couple of times for $10-$15.00, and I’ve been tempted to buy them. Honestly, if they ever come out with a Kuromi set I may just have to break down and buy a set or buy the hook second hand. God help me if they come out with Sailor Moon lol.

The hooks are terrible and hiding the tails in that yarn is a nightmare. The gimmicks are superb, though. Beetlejuice and LOTR dragged me right in despite already knowing I do not enjoy the kits. Its all rather expensive for what generally amounts to a blob with arms. The only good part is the videos which prove useful for the more intricate patterns like the beetlejuice worm. I think if the hooks weren’t hot garbage that I literally cant use for anything but decorations, I’d be less salty about wasting money on nostalgia and egg shaped creatures. Lots of stan comments like “just say you’re poor” or “dont buy it if you cant afford it.” Even when one can afford it, why buy lackluster products when better exist? Silliness

Man, that really sucks about the hooks! I appreciate you saying something. I do a lot of 3d printing and modeling and have thought about just making my own custom handles with hooks I know I like instead of the Wooble’s hooks.

I absolutely agree with you on the latter part too, I feel like people forget that more goes into a purchase than whether or not you have the money for it. Item quality, life relevance, and for me personally a “can I make it better but cheaper” attitude goes into it lol.

The Sanrio hooks are adorable ToT

If you just want the hooks, you could check out online, someone could be selling them :person_shrugging:

I’ve never used wobbles, but I have used a yarn similar, and it seems alright to me!

I have found the hooks on Mercari for $10-$15.

Yeah! I’ve seen tshirt yarn used for rugs and they’re SO cute! I like the puffy look, but not so much the way the stitches look on an amigurumi. I’m considering getting some tshirt yarn to make a water bowl mat for our animals.

But I love the hooks lol

I’ve made 4 woobles kits so far and i have loved them all. The hooks are super cute and i have never had a problem with them. The yarn is really nice because it doesn’t frey and it is perfect for beginners! I just wish that they made some kits with fuzzy yarn because the stitches are very visible when you crochet with them. Another upside to these kits is that it comes with everything; yarn, a hook, video instructions, saftey eyes, stuffing, a tapestry needle, and stitch markers too! I love that they have the option of sewing on the eyes insead of adding the safety eyes because of the chocking hazard for little kids and pets. Overall, i would definitely recommend woobles to anyone of all skill levels in crochet, they always turn out really cute and they are worth the price. (Did y’all know that the woobles is a small business???)
