Just curious why some people lost some yarns as worsted and aran.
For example Caron One Pound is a worsted yarn but on Ravelry and other places they lost it as an aran weight. Same with the Caron simply soft.
When I google the difference it says that aran is a bit thicker than worsted
So what is it? Is aran yarn heavier and thicker than worsted? Or are they the same?
I’m so confused

They call the same things different names in different countries. Europe calls it Aran along with other places, US calls it Worsted. It’s the same size yarn. Most of the other sizes are the same names. Some places call it by the mm sizes too. I don’t understand those yet.
I like the US number sizes. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
It simplifies things.

Thank you! That makes so much more sense now.

Aran is typically thicker than worsted. Thickness of yarn is determined by the number of WPI( wraps per inch)
The Yarn Council determines how many wraps per inch makes it a fine, lace, sport, DK, worsted, aran, bulky, etc.
That said, there are many who protest the manufacturer label claim to worsted ( or whichever).
